As I am working on the History of Springfield's oldest parks it is fascinating to discover some of their history. The Springfield Parks Board came into being in 1913. The very first two parks that they would inherit came from back in the day when Springfield was split into North Springfield and Springfield. The parks were part of the original plot of North Springfield laid out in 1869 and formally adopted in 1871.
