UPDATE 01/01/2021, 12:40 PM: The National Weather Service has extended our Winter Storm Warning until 6:00 PM. Additional snow accumulations of up to two inches and an additional one-tenth of an inch of ice are possible. WINTER STORM WARNING: The National Weather has upgraded the Winter Weather Advisory issued earlier this morning to a Winter Storm Warning, effective from midnight tonight through 3:00 PM tomorrow (New Year’s Day), for Warren and several of our neighborin...g counties. Quoting here from the official Warning text Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of one quarter to four tenths of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 30 mph. Power outages and tree damage are likely, and travel is being described as nearly impossible. It goes without saying (although we’re going to day it anyway) that if you don’t absolutely have to be out tonight, please stay off the roadways.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY: The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory, effective from 9:00 PM tonight through noon tomorrow (01/01/2021), for Warren and many of our neighboring counties. Freezing rain with ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch can be expected. Current models show this beginning as light snow around 11:00 PM tonight, with some light sleet starting around 1:00 AM. It looks like a wintry mix through the very early morning hours, with a transition to freezing rain around 3:00 AM which should last through roughly 6:00 AM. Temperatures through this period look to be at or just below the freezing mark, so even a little difference may mean we see a rain/freezing rain mix, and by around 7:00 AM we should see just rain. Let’s be careful out there . . .

WINTER WEATHER UPDATE: I’d like to open by saying that, for all the media coverage (and yes, our coverage as well), this is not shaping up to be a major event. There are no winter weather-related warnings, watches, or advisories issued for us. Yet because of the timing, and the potential traffic/roadway issues, we’ll keep the updates coming. With Round 1 (which for me consisted of a few barely visible snowflakes yesterday) behind us, Round 2 (today) looks like rain changin...g to a rain/snow mix around 10:00 AM. We could see all snow by about 2:00 PM, with that ending sometime this evening. Total snow accumulations - if any - should remain less than an inch. The forecast for Round 3 (New Year’s Eve) shows it beginning as light snow about 6:00 PM, transitioning about 9:00 PM to a sleet/rain/freezing rain mix. The freezing rain should come to an end very early in the morning on New Year’s Day, but rain will continue through the early morning hours. Ice accumulations - if any - are estimated at less than one-tenth of an inch. So let’s be careful out there . . .

WINTER WEATHER THIS WEEK: The National Weather Service is forecasting three separate rounds of winter precipitation this week. Round 1; this afternoon and this evening, a mix of snow (up to one-half inch) and ice (up to one-tenth of an inch) which should stay to our north and west . . . but not by much. Round 2; Wednesday evening and into the overnight hours, a dusting of snow and up to one-tenth of an inch of ice, which should stay to our south . . . but not by much.... Round 3; as rain moves back into the area Thursday evening, current models show it turning to freezing rain as it approaches I-70 and continues to move northward. Details are still coming into focus, but this may - may - impact us if the forecast holds. We’ll post any updates here as they become available.

Our hearts go out to the people of Nashville, Tennessee this morning; targets of what law enforcement there is calling an intentional act. Just before 6:00 AM, law enforcement officers in Nashville responded to a report of shots fired in the downtown area. Upon arrival they found no signs of shots having been fired, but did observe an RV parked in front of the AT&T building. Some element of that RV caused them to notify the bomb squad, and to begin to notify and evacuat...e buildings in the immediate area. At 6:30 AM, as those notifications were in progress, the vehicle exploded. At least three persons have been injured and numerous buildings damaged (image courtesy of WKRN). Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured, their loved ones, the City of Nashville, and our emergency response brothers and sisters as they treat the injured, protect others, bring order out of chaos, and start the process of bringing those responsible to justice.

Have you changed your batteries yet? Be sure to look for the manf. date on the back of your alarm as well, if over ten years, the detector needs to be replaced too.

Earlier this week, the Board of Directors approved the District to take out a loan to make it through the rest of the year. With out this loan, the District would not be able to continue its current Day-To-Day operation. Prop Fire Safety will be on the November 3rd Ballot. This is a half cent sales tax increase that will be able to establish funds for the Fire District.

Our District has not seen a funding measure since 2001. Our equipment is breaking down, which means the cost to repair or replace is sometimes too high for the District to afford. Therefore leaving us with no choice but to prioritize what gets fixed, and what doesn't. Prop Fire Safety will ensure funds so that the District can replace and repair equipment, fix ongoing issues throughout our Stations, and much more.
