The latest lampshades from Wabbani, handmade in Yupukari. These are 14" tall and 7" square, but we can make any size. Handwoven hammock-style, with cotton grown and spun by the women's cotton group, they fit perfectly on wood frames made in the village woodshop, a.k.a. "The Termites." Aren't they beautiful?
This video not only shows all the steps in traditional cassava production -- it's also a living exhibit of the traditional basketry that inspired us to start Wabbani. You'll see warishi, sifter, matapi, shoomba and fan, all in use. It was a sifter that inspired us to make the first flat panels, and a shoomba that formed our first basketry tabletop.
