Mama Hakima, Uzazi Village CEO In 2021 I am looking forward to taking The Village Circle Way off paper and putting it into real life within the form of the Ida Mae Clinic. I'm so proud of the Afro-centric, group prenatal care model I have developed over my lifetime. I am most excited to put it into action and test its merits. It is my own particular form of community-entrenched pregnancy care. It is my attempt to remake the pathologized version of so-called care that is real...ly only disease and social disorder surveillance. What if instead, pregnancy care nurtured, informed, loved up on and guided the pregnant body and expectant family towards wholeness and wellness as appropriate preparation for receiving a new being into their midst. This would be radical 'healthcare'. In fact, let's call it person/care. Let's no longer frighten and bully pregnant persons into conformity around adherence to medical benchmarks that may or may not fit your physicality or physiology. Prenatal care is what happens in community, not in healthcare settings. Its time to reclaim that which is ours. See more

Hakima’s Corner Hello Village, The holiday season is now in full swing. It has been a busy one for us here at Uzazi Village even with our offices closed! We are doing COVID 19 Testing twice a week, weekly diaper giveaways, and monthly Curbside Closets. Our Sister Doulas are hard at work serving our childbearing families, virtually and our lactation staff is still doing online visits. Families can still attend Chocolate Milk Café via our Zoom link. Our Parent Educators, Ebony... and KaMille are still doing remote home visits with our families. We have been moving our trainings to a new online platform and are integrating a new charting system. We should have our new website up by the end of the month thanks to Lillian James Creative. Thanks to our Garden Coordinator, Izula Jade, we are excited to unveil our new Uzazi Village Apothecary full of the herbs and medicinals we have grown all summer. We were thrilled to graduate five more Perinatal Doulas from our Fall course and will offer it again in January. We are also excited to announce that we have selected new board members to our Council of Elders and added 6 new members to the Community Expert Review Board (CERB). Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday and we so hope that you will consider a donation to Uzazi Village. We are so fortunate to be a part of so many wonderful works here in our community to uplift and nurture our community families.
