Difficult behaviour is normal, and children are sometimes just supposed to push all our buttons ... Instead of entering into a ‘merry go round’ of discipline and difficult behaviour, practice letting things go. Ask yourself what is most important? What are our family values? What battles are you going to stick with, and what ones will you walk away from? Sometimes letting things go is hard when the things are annoying or triggering. This is where planned ignoring can be used. Or try putting on music, taking some breaths, or walking away. Talk to your partner or those living with you about what’s important and what isn’t.
