Pickleball. Outdoor games. Fun for your entire family, and we’re doing it all to support families in this community! Join us Wednesday, July 28 for the Emerging Leaders Society Summer Fundraising Event: In Support of the Family Empowerment Initiative! All proceeds will help families and their school-age children who have either become homeless, are at risk of homelessness or have a history of frequent moves. Your donation covers games and one drink ticket, and food will be available for purchase. Suggested donations for admission are $10 for adults, or $25 for familiesbut any donation above that amount goes directly toward supporting FEI participants. Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers and father figures! To celebrate #FathersDay, we asked the dads on our team what it means to be raising the next generation. They shared pride in their kids, the life lessons they’ve instilled, and how they talk to their children about improving the community. Click to read more about the dads behind the scenes of the mission at UWGKC https://okt.to/u2mPXL What’s something special about your own father figure(s)? Share below.
It’s been an inspiring and educational week of #JuneteenthKC celebrations throughout our community, and we’re thankful for the opportunities we had to participate. Thank you to our friends and partners at Synergy Services for inviting our staff to their Juneteenth event, where our President & CEO Chris Rosson shared his thoughts on the holiday: Juneteenth is a celebration of transformation, of resilience, and of liberation. Those aren’t things that just happened in the past ...or are just happening today, they’re an everyday thing. I would challenge all of us as we reflect on history, challenge all of us as we think of the future, ‘Just what role do we have in shaping history?’ The learnings of the 2021 Juneteenth celebration will carry us forward, as our staff gathers next week to discuss what we saw and heard, how we’ve grown, and how we can use our placement in the community to shape the history and future of Kansas City.
The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is not just any ordinary museum. It is a beacon for social justice and civil rights in Kansas City, led by President Bob Kendrick. If you’re visiting the Juneteenth celebrations on 18th and Vine this weekend, we encourage you to pay the NLBM a visit. https://okt.to/S1cimd #Juneteenth #KansasCity #nlbm
A part of our Juneteenth celebrations is to amplify prominent voices in Kansas City. Attorney and consultant, Adrienne Haynes is focused on growing KC businesses, especially minority and women-owned enterprises. She's also an active member of Multicultural Business Coalition, an organization that unites business people to create a stronger, more sustainable community. Her work is helping Kansas City rapidly become a more equitable and vibrant community every day. Find out more about her work and experience at adriennebhaynes.com #Juneteenth #KansasCity #teamSEED
The day is of tremendous historical significance, but i still think the practical application of what it represents is ongoing. Negro Leagues Baseball Museum President, Bob Kendrick spoke to us about the significance of #Junteenth as we aim to make progress toward freedom, justice, and liberty for all citizens.
