Good Wednesday morning. Hope you got to see the cemetery in the early season snow the past couple of days. It was beautiful! Please remember when you're visiting to stay safe, wear a mask and keep your distance. The UCHS wants to thank all those who have attended the Coterie Theatre's production of "Electric Poe." The question and answer sessions at the end of the show have been a great opportunity to share information about Union Cemetery and the UCHS.

Good Tuesday morning. We hope you're adjusting to the cooler fall weather. We wanted to inform our friends that the Coterie Theatre's production will have a performance of "Electric Poe" tomorrow night, Wednesday, September 30. This means that the cemetery's drive in gate will be closed at 5pm. We would also appreciate those who walk in the cemetery to be respectful of the performers and audience by staying on the south side of the cemetery from 6pm to 8pm. This request is for the entire run of the show not just for tomorrow night. Thanks for your understanding.

Good Wednesday morning. The UCHS is proud to partner with The Coterie theatre to produce "Electric Poe," an interpretation of two Edgar Allen Poe's short stories with electric guitar accompaniment. The play opens tomorrow night, Thursday, September 17 and runs Thursday through Sunday nights through October 31. Come enjoy the beautiful late summer/early fall evenings at the Holding Vault witnessing the return of live theatre to Kansas City. Reservations only. Go to the Coterie Theatre's website, thecoterie.org, for more information.

Good Thursday evening. Just a reminder to our friends and neighbors: Historic Union Cemetery is open until 7:00pm unless the person locking the gate is a little lax. Please make sure, if you do not have the walk in gate code or are in a vehicle that you park outside the cemetery before 7pm so you can leave the cemetery via the walk out gate. Thanks.

Good Saturday morning. It's going to be a hot one today, so when you're walking through Kansas City's oldest public cemetery please take care. Also, for the sake of others who want to enjoy the cemetery, if you're walking through the cemetery with your pet, please be considerate of others and keep them on leash. There have been some incidents between dogs that have raised some concern about off leash animals. Thank you.

Good Father's Day morning!! We hope that you have a leisurely day planned with your families! Did you know that the "father" of Westport and Kansas City is buried in historic Union Cemetery? John Calvin McCoy bought a parcel of land in the early 1800s on the road leading west out of Independence to the west. He cleared the land, built a trading post and platted a townsite. He called the site West Port. Not only McCoy but other men and women who shaped the development of this area are resting in Kansas City's oldest public cemetery. Come by today and learn their stories while enjoying the tranquility of Union Cemetery!!
