HB228 related to recording IEP meetings passed out of the House Education Committee yesterday. It is now a consent bill. We won't go into all the details, but c...onsent bills are considered not controversial and they cannot be amended. Interestingly, the House Education Committee did add a little something to the bill--an emergency clause. It begins with this, "Because immediate action is necessary to ensure that a parent or legal guardian has the ability to provide the best educational opportunity for their student by providing them with the opportunity to record meetings scheduled prior to the start of the school term. . ." The emergency clause would make the law go into effect immediately after being signed by the governor. We hope local school districts see the importance of this and don't wait for this bill to make them do what is right. Want to read the entire bill?
