He hates it w...hen I say this but before the first event we met and he knew he wanted to do something with BJJ/Grappling but not sure what. He asked me so I listed to him the important must-dos required to make a good, successful event thinking (and honestly hoping) he would turn it down. Instead he just simply said "ok" and here we are $12,582 in payouts to the athletes. 700+ fans attended. Hundreds online. We used every chair in the building, had to scurry through the back halls to find broken chairs for the commentators and photographers to sit on...We broke records on nitrotickets, in over ten plus years in business they’ve never seen such numbers We. YOU. Kansas City. We had no network, no media outlets, no coverage, we promoted it and streamed it ourselves...it was all you guys. I tried, I reached out to several bjj media outlets for coverage, they all declined. Why? I just smiled and thought Ok, just wait then. Kansas City will turn up. And it did. YOU guys did. If they didn’t watch, they took notice. The bjj community took notice. It seems like everyone wants to be a part of the show now. It’s blown up, and I’m still recovering over two weeks later. It got so big, so much, we’ll have to delegate much more and do better next year. Thank-you to each and every person that turned up, bought a ticket or the stream. Thank-you to the athletes. We carefully selected not only good athletes, but good people. This is so important. If you are mad you didn’t get on the show, or you are questioning why someone else did instead of you, make little stipulations, excuses...that’s the exact reason. Don’t do that. It's no coincidence the Edmund Bordes Memorial Fighter's Heart Award is part of this show. If only we all strove for those qualities, jiu-jitsu and the world would be a better place. It’s all about the kids, first and foremost. So many kids, parents, competitors came up to us from all over and said how much they enjoyed the tournament format, that they will be back every year. These awesome competitors get what the Ultimate Absolute is about. It’s special, it’s something you put on your calendar and train for all year. It’s not another tournament...There is nothing like it, it’s super-tough. If you compete in it, you are a stud. If you make the podium, that’s impressive. And if you win the title Ultimate Absolute Champion, huge accomplishment. The Pro Show is a bonus.
