It’s our #pickoftheweek and it’s the perfect PAOLO SCAVINO VINO ROSSO PIEDMONT, ITALY... We've been huge fans of Paolo Scavino Vino Rosso for years, and the newest release keeps that winning streak going strong. Nebbiolo is always the main grape in the Vino Rosso blend, but the supporting grapes change slightly from year to year. For this year's wine, Barbera, Dolcetto, and Merlot have been added to the blend resulting in a red that offers wonderful complexity and concentration as well as a super-approachable style. The grapes from the younger vines of the Estate combined together, offer a fresh, aromatic, charming wine with a Piedmontese character. Brilliant ruby-red with purple hints. Expressive, bright and delicate aromas of red cherries and spices. Fresh in the nose and on the palate. Supple and fleshy structure - the red & blue fruit flavors are persistent and show great purity. A delicious red which expresses the brightness of the vintage, to drink over the next year or two. retail $14-$15 pow price $12

It’s our #pickoftheweek CHATEAU HAUT TUQUET COTES DE CASTILLON BORDEAUX, FRANCE... A couple times a year, we sit down with one of our Bordeaux distributors and taste through a slew of wines. This most recent Bordeaux pre-sale, we tasted sixteen different (I know, hard work) wines. One wine stood out as, hands down, the best dollar-for-dollar wine in the bunch. How we can sell this for $12 is beyond me & we are really excited to offer it to you. This is a knock-out and a ridiculous value for a great drinking Bordeaux from an exceptional vintage. Mainly Cabernet Sauvignon with a good dollop of Merlot & Cabernet Franc; there are gobs of floral black cherry, cassis & raspberry fruits with highlights of cedar, graphite & vanilla. Medium to full bodied, silky smooth tannins & a fleshy and lengthy finish. retail $15-$16 pow price $12

It’s our #pickoftheweek THE FABLEIST WINE CO. FABLE: 395 MERLOT - PASO ROBLES... This is the fifth vintage of The Fableist Merlot that we have had on our shelves. The wine is a powerhouse partnership between Curt Schalchlin of Sans Liege & Andrew Jones of Field Recording. Although we have been a fan of every vintage of this Merlot we have sold - the newest release (2019) is by far, our favorite. The Merlot has a classic claret character - a touch softer & more feminine than prior vintages - probably why we love it so much. Highly perfumed & purely fruited, showing aromas of black tea, northland blueberries and wet concrete. The fleshy fruit & silky texture slides gracefully across the palate leaving behind hints of sweet plums, warm cedar planks, and freshly ground spices. Vineyard Notes Hinterland, Guigliemo Giuseppe, Wine Porch, Haar, Santa Barbara Highlands, Riverstar, Seven Angels 86% Merlot, 12%Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Petit Verdot, 1%Tempranillo retail $18-$20 pow price $12 (WOWZERS)

It’s our ANNE PICHON SAUVAGE - VENTOUX SYRAH + GRENACHE... Stretching across the slopes of the Ventoux mountain in the southeastern region of the Rhône Valley, Cotes du Ventoux excels in the production of spicy and characterful red blends based on Grenache, Syrah, and other indigenous varieties. Anne Pichon 'Sauvage' is a departure from the usual Syrah/ Grenache combo. While southern Rhone is known for its enjoyable easy-to-drink wines, Sauvage gains so much more complexity from low-yield single vineyards in Mormoiron, late harvests, and very long fermentation. This wine is fermented and vinified in cement & steel followed by aging, primarily in steel and a little in oak, which allows the fruit and earth to shine. An unfiltered blend of 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache that's full of floral aromas and red & black fruit. Spice and black currants on a long, sophisticated, earthy finish. It offers lovely aromas of cherries and blueberries, spiced up by hints of cola and rosemary. It's medium-bodied, moderately concentrated but very friendly and crushable. A Rockstar value from a Rockstar producer. retail $18 pow price $15

It’s our #pickoftheweek and this is our nEw FaVoRiTe VaLuE wHiTe MATHIAS MICHELINI PASSIONATE WINES DEL MONO BLANCO... This is the second time we have featured one of Mathias Michelini's "Del Mono" wines as our PoW. We really liked the Malbec/Bonarda blend of the tinto and we love, love this Sauv Blanc/Semillon blend of the blanco. Show us another $10 white that drinks better than this & we will buy you lunch. The Sauvignon Blanc (60%) and Semillon (40%) are sustainably farmed from two vineyards in the Tupungato region of the Uco Valley. This crisp, fruit driven wine shows notes of Cantaloupe and Honeydew melon mixed with yellow peach and white flowers on the nose. The palate shows the summery melon fruit but adds complex notes of jasmine, orange peel, and crushed wet rock with a touch of green herbs. Bright acid highlights the refreshingly dry finish. Sauv Blanc - planted in 1970 Semillon - planted in 1960 retail $12 pow price $10

It’s our #pickoftheweek! VIÑA LAURENT RESERVA CABERNET SAUVIGNON... Vina Laurent is a labor of love for the husband & wife team of Damien and Lorena Laurent. Damien is originally from Bordeaux, France where he grew up learning how to make wine from his grandfather and father. For twelve years, he ran the family’s estate, Chateau L’Escart. When the couple began looking for terroir to express their passions, naturally, they looked to Lorena’s home of Chile. They planted their organically farmed vineyards in 2008 and built the natural, gravity flow winery in 2011. All the wines are fermented with native yeasts, partial whole cluster & zero Sulphur additions. This 100% Cab Sauv from Maipo Valley has high-toned aromas & flavors of blackberry, blueberry, purple flowers and wild herbs, with a welcome hint of graphite. A beautifully balanced red with real purity to its dark berry core, a medium-to-full body & a silky smooth finish. This is a pretty wine with great structure. Once again proving that ‘Natural doesn’t have to mean weird. retail $15 pow price $12

SLEIGHT OF HAND CELLARS RENEGADE WINE CO. CABERNET SAUVIGNON Walla Walla based Sleight of Hand Cellars has made a strong reputation over the last decade for crafting high quality reds from premium vineyards across the state. Like many other smaller wineries, they have a 'second label' that allows them to create less expensive wines that sell through quicker without doing any perceived 'damage' to the reputation of the more expensive wines. These wines are often wines of oppor...tunity, finding fruit on the cheap from a good source that has more fruit than expected. The standard for quality still has to be met, so if you trust in the talent of the winemaking team you ride the ride and are almost always met with a phenomenal value like this one. Cabernet Sauvignon is the backbone of the blend, and this year's version is a high enough percentage that it has been labeled as a Cab Sauv. Deep saturated purple in the glass with rich aromas of black fruits, cassis and graphite, and just a slight pop of extra perfume from the Malbec in the blend. The palate is quintessential Washington State Cab, delivering a saturated dark fruit explosion with surprisingly silky tannins and a bit of grip on the finish helped on by the Syrah. Like all the Renegade wines, this drinks as well as something twice as expensive. retail $15 pow price $12

It’s our #pickoftheweek MIRCO MARIOTTI SMARAZEN (PET NAT) BIANCO DELL'EMILIA... Micro‘s home is Emilia-Romagna, his vineyards are in the unique seacoast area of the Bosco Eliceo. The vines are old, some planted in 1952, some well over 100 years old. All are on native rootstock, are planted in the beach sand, just 300 meters from the Adriatic sea and one meter BELOW sea level. It is salty, sandy, windy, with alternating fog and sun makes for a dramatic place for vines to grow. Mirco chooses to work exclusively with the local varieties: Trebbiano Romagnolo and Malvasia di Candia for this Bianco, where the savory, herbal, salty aspect of growing vines so close to the beach really comes through. Citrusy, with herbal and savory notes, finishing with some salinity and a firm dry mouthfeel. The interplay between the citrus/herbal flavors, the slight Pet-Nat fizz, and a bit of chalkiness give this a very energetic character. Think salted summer melon with a citrussy and herbal edge - it's delicious! retail $20 pow price $18
