The two-story Michelson Building was built in 1923. Edward Samuel Michelson was a businessman with many interests in construction and transportation. He was a tire distributor and owned an auto parts-related factory early in his career in Kansas City. The Michelson Building was his first known building venture. He eventually went on to focus on more property development in the area of Paseo and Vine. Today, it is being renovated to be office and retail space. Kansas City’s past is rich with the history of many American Indian tribes. From the Wyandot to the Kansa, many area tribes were forced from their land or lured away with false promises. #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay bears particular significance, as the Tycor Building and the buildings at 31st and Troost were once part of the Osage Trail. Originally created by migrating wildlife, the trail was later established by American Indians and later became the basis for the start of the Santa Fe trail.
