Text from TEX, 2.12.21 This Sunday is Transfiguration Sunday. Our text from Mark is on that wonderful meeting on the mountaintop with Jesus, Peter, James, and John. In that moment Mark reports that Jesus’ clothes turned dazzling white. There are those shining moments in our lives, so in celebration of Transfiguration Sunday, I want to look at those. Our biblical texts are II Corinthians 4: 3-6 and Mark 9: 2-8. Also, it is Valentine's Day, and that is the time to remember othe...r wonderful moments in our journey. I think there’s a connection in there somewhere, and I want to find it. Please join us online at trinitykc.org. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 17 this year. After all we’ve been through, someone said, this is the the lentiest Lent that has ever lented. It has been a tough year. We invite you to begin this season with a thirty-minute online service at 7 PM this coming Wednesday. You will be sent a Zoom site to join us. Please do. Lenten study: Blaine Proctor, our church treasurer and CEO of Save Inc., an organization that works with LGBTQ+ people on housing issues, will teach an online course on the book by Matthew Desmond entitled Eviction. This book has received high praise in any number of reviews and will give us a sound orientation to the issue of eviction in our own city. The course will run every Wednesday evening 7 to 8:30 from February 24 through March 31. A note from Dallas Ziegenhorn: With frigid weather lingering in the area, Bartle Hall has opened its doors for overnight shelter. A request has gone out for assistance warm coats, clothes, socks, sheets, and blankets. Let's help. Trinity pantry volunteers offer to come by and pick up your donations. Simply call the office and let Mary Allison know where to pick them up. People: At KU Med Center Kathleen Danforth had tracheotomy surgery today to improve her breathing. Her sister Karen Sharpe reports that she is resting better and that important numbers are down, which is good. She will be there another three to four weeks. Cards are appreciated. Please keep Kathleen and Karen in your prayers. Peggy Sample had an endoscopy today, and no problems were found. She will undergo an imaging test next week to check out other possible issues regarding nausea she has experienced recently.

TEXT FROM TEX, 11.6.2020 Sermon In the book of Deuteronomy Moses has led the people of Israel to Moab, an area just out side the Promised Land. There, the Covenant with God is renewed and, there, God places before the people of Israel the choice of choosing life or death. We are in the most divided time in our country's history that I have ever known. What does it mean to choose life in the United States today? We receive help here from the Gospel of John where Jesus tell us ...that he has come that we may have life. How do we join these two biblical passages in terms of how they can inform us today. This is the concern of this week's sermon. Please join us online at trinitykc.org at 10:30am. The service will be available on Monday on our archives at trinitykc.org. Stewardship We will begin our annual church Stewardship Drive on Sunday, November 8. This is that time when we ask our participants to make pledges to our budget for the coming year. Pledge cards will be provided and distributed and sent out online. Please begin to consider prayerfully your gifts of time and money to Trinity for the coming year. People Please remember the following people in your prayers: Avis Morton feels a bit better but continues in the search for an adequate diagnosis of her fatigue. Also, Avis' sister and brother-in-law, Mary and John Futral, were hospitalized this past week. Greg Houston is feeling very well in his ongoing struggle with lymphoma; Charlotte Clark is enjoying the new freedom of having only one arm in a cast, but the cast on the other arm is bothering her, which she is going to check out today. Dallas Ziegenhorn on Trinity's Hot Food Programs: Our Emergency Food Pantry is now open on Mondays and Saturdays. Donations are needed of canned meat, vegetables and spaghetti (tab top cans only). We also will provide socks for each guest. Please donate large and medium men's white socks (mediums will fit women). Thanks from all our volunteers. Class on Organizing The class on Jane McAlevey's book No Short Cuts will reconvene this week on Monday evening, November 9 at 6pm. We meet both in person--with social distancing and masks--and online. If you wish to join us online, send me your email and I will add you to the list of Zoom invitees. The Course on John Wesley’s Theology The course on John Wesley’s Theology will conclude this Wednesday, November 11 at 6pm when we summarize our study and look at the implications for us today. Tex Sample, Ph.D.
