Tom Newport For Webster Groves School Board

I want to publicly congratulate the candidates who were successful in the Webster Groves School Board election; Jo Doll, Amy Clendennen and David Addison. I shared with them this morning how difficult this election was for me because I liked my opponents. They are decent people and I consider them my friend. I also want to thank all of you that supported my candidacy and voted for me. I hope I have not disappointed you. I worked hard everyday (with the exception of spring b...reak) to meet voters and talk about why I was running. Voters also had much to share with me as well. I have spent most of my life working to give a voice to those who had none or needed help having their voice heard. My decision to run for the school board was based, in part, on the negative financial impact to some families by the failure of the school district to secure funding from the State of Missouri. That situation has been corrected. My concern going forward is that we are hiring the qualified professionals to perform the work of the District. During the campaign I talked to many families that have had a great experience attending Webster Groves schools. But some families shared frustrations they have with our schools. There is a lot of work that needs to be done to make our schools the envy of other schools districts. I intend to share with the School Board the conversations I have had with folks in our community. It is my hope they put words into action and recommit themselves to making Webster Groves School District the best it can be. In closing I want to thank all the voters who came out yesterday and participated in our electoral process. We truly live in a great community.

Thank you Becky Morgan for allowing me to speak to the "Moms Demand Action" meeting. What a great group of people supporting gun sense legislation in our state. As I said the other night guns have no place in our schools.
