Tim's Fly Shop 08.07.2021

Roaring River is looking fantastic, the water has finally cleared up, except for when they are dredging and Repair work to the stream bank. The water level is at 74 CFS this is fantastic fishing. The fly fisherman are having a ball fishing black ants, black Beetles, crackle backs, Elk hair caddis, parachute Adams, and we are starting to catch more fish on stimulators and small grasshoppers the top water fishing is really good right now. If you want to fish a woolly bugger ol...Continue reading

Very productive morning

Tim's Fly Shop 03.06.2021

The water level is now at 76 CFS and it is falling a little bit every day. With the slower flows the flyfishing is getting so much better, the last week fishing Black Beetles, black ants and small grasshoppers has gotten very good. We are still seeing some pretty good Caddis hatches and there are still plenty of blue wing olives in the afternoon to make things interesting, Holographic green crackle backs have been good, as have been the caterpillars in green, small green w...oolly buggers have done well all week black woolly buggers are very good in the morning. If you are fishing nymphs, pheasant tails, burlaps, sowbugs, copper johns, and small black zebra midges, have been doing very well this week. The water is still not real clear but it is getting better every day it is definitely better than it was a couple weeks ago, we are seeing very good dry fly activity and this should get better and better as the water level drops. If you are fishing dry flies I would recommend a 9 foot 7X leader, and if you are fishing nymphs and small woolly buggers I would be fishing a 9 foot 6X leader, and if I am I am fishing larger woolly buggers size 8’s or bigger and if I am fishing streamers I will sometimes use 5X leaders and even 4X leaders when the fish will let me. Pink San Juan worms, cream colored mop flies, and orange mop flies did very well this week. Right now we are still using 2 pound line and four pound line on spinning rods the water is clearing and if it continues to clear it won’t be long before 2 pound will be the best line and I usually use a moss green, or a clear fluorocarbon line when the water gets real clear I try to avoid the camo lines, the red lines and the fluorescent blue lines, when the water gets real clear. Black, pink, white, and yellow, spinners did very well this week a 1/16 or 1/24 seem to be a good size this week there are still a few areas if you want to get down and slow your spinner down you will still need to add a little weight. PowerBait eggs in white, orange, and the fluorescent yellow did very well this week. PowerBait worms in pink, cheese yellow, and in the orange peel color, all work well this week. We are still catching plenty of fish gold colored spoons small crank baits, and on Marabou jigs, in olive, black/yellow, white, and green/ pink jigs did very well this week also we are still using 1/16 and 1/32 oz. jigs most of the time there are still a few areas down in the flyer you where a 1/8 ounce jig will still work better than the lighter jigs. Have a great week on the river. See more

New Hareline mop fly chenille seems to be a hit, 10 trout in 40 minutes, and I missed that many more probably, used orange this morning, was going to do chartreuse also but I forgot it on the tying bench.

These things might work, we will find out tomorrow, if this new hairline material is any good.
