Have you ever done a little reverse genealogy to find history on your ancestor? For instance, the Dust Bowl was a period of severe dust storms that greatly dama...ged the ecology and agriculture of the American and Canadian prairies during the 1930s. It covered Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas, areas of the Plain States. Do a search on your ancestors who were born or lived between 1930 and 1938. If they lived in these states or areas. They lived through it and were impacted by it. Did you learn they moved during this time? Did their economy change? Maybe you have an ancestor that lived in Ireland between 1922 and 1923. They would have lived through the Irish Civil War where independence from the United Kingdom took place. www.ancquest.com

A few days ago I was reading on Fox News various news stories and ran across this heading: Last US citizen receiving a Civil War pension dies in North Carolina... - nearly 170 years after her father defected from the Confederate Army on the way to Gettysburg to fight for the Union to abolish slavery. I go whaaat? How is that possible? This isn't a traditional genealogy news story I'd post. But thought it would be of interest to genealogists. Here's how: 1). Mose Triplett fought for both the Confederate and Union Armies during the Civil War of 1861 - 1865. 2). in 1930, at the age of 83, his much-younger wife gave birth to daughter Irene. 3). Irene qualified for a Civil War pension as the daughter of a veteran; and began receiving the government money in the mind-1950's. 4). In a 2014 article with the Washington Post, Irene revealed she was receiving a monthly check of $73.13. 5). She passed away last Sunday at the age of 90. She was the last US Citizen to be receiving a Civil War pension. www.ancquest.com
