The Talent Loop

If you spent 2 months writing your values, would you get it done? If you spent 2 weeks writing your values, would you get it done? If you spent 2 hours writing your values, would you get it done?... If you said yes to all three, in hindsight, which one did you have to prepare for the most? Just for the record... this is a trick question. If you had to prepare for any of them, then you got tricked. The trick isn't in your effort, focus, or even the knowledge you have about your values. The trick is, other people see and can confirm your values more than you, if articulated well. The highs and lows of this discovery (and yes there are lows) shouldn't spread out over two months. Most of the time when we looked back and did things that drew out the highs and lows over a longer period of time, our sentences usually started with.. "I was going to, but then..." In this case, "I was going to be myself in the job interview, but then..." You can fill in the rest for yourself. If you would like to fill in the rest with a job that is legitimately true to your values and your core self, don't do it alone. Whatever you do, don't say this, "I was going to really work for my dream job, but then I was offered this other one, that's probably really good."

You are sitting still, minding your own business when something hits you... Not physically. No. ... Some thought you’ve been missing to see smacks you in the face. That’s a reality check. Then there are moments when you are in a room. You are sitting there, not full engaged, and the atmosphere changes. You are up next. You did not know you had to present.
