Thank you to Dr. Glenna Mahoney of Research College of Nursing for presenting her work on Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) to our Advisory Directors today! Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners are registered nurses who have completed specialized education and clinical preparation in the medical forensic care of a patient who has experienced sexual assault or abuse. Dr. Mahoney's research project was funded by The Research Foundation as a part of our many nursing faculty development opportunities. Today, we offer a retrospective of Rose Simone's gifts to The Research Foundation throughout the past 25 years. This organization has benefited from the loyalty, hard work, and friendship of Rose for quite some time. Keeping our friends healthy and reducing the spread of COVID-19 is important to us. So, for the first time since 1986, the 2020 Candlelight Ball scheduled for November 7, 2020 has been cancelled. The current pandemic has caused our fundraising efforts to suffer. But the individuals served through our programs still need your support. We just hosted the virtual 2020 Hematology/Oncology Symposium for Primary Care Providers! Our injury prevention program for youth, ThinkFirst of Greater Kansas City, had its very first virtual program at Piper Middle School! Did you know that falls are a leading cause of traumatic brain injuries for people over the age of 65? Today's virtual Advisory Directors' meeting featured Lori Unruh, the Trauma Education Coordinator at Research Medical Center. She coordinates ThinkFirst About Falls, a program designed to help individuals recognize their concerns about falling and the hazards in their home and community that contribute to falls.
