The Modernists 18.11.2020

As the world waits while we count the remaining ballots - including thousands of military ballots, let's remember that what always unites a divided nation is the support and remembrance of our men and women serving in the military. Next week is Veterans Day and Armistice Day. The National WWI Museum and Memorial is extending it's free admission to veterans/active duty military for the entire week. Nov. 11 remains as free admission to the public. Outdoor morning ceremony is at 10 a.m. (will also be streamed live - stay tuned for that link). If you have a poppy pin, please join us in wearing it in the countdown to Veterans Day as a symbolic bond of gratefulness between the living and the war dead.

How do you ensure your voice will be counted? Join this event on Wednesday with KCUR 89.3 and KCUR Generation Listen to get in-the-know and ready for this important upcoming election.

Ginsburg paved the way for so many of us. This weekend, we are especially inspired by the memory of her innovative ideas and empowering words but also the unique, and extraordinary public servant that she was. Artist and author Maira Kalman had a chat with her, resulting in these dazzling glimpses into Ruth's colorful personality and source of tenacity. Rest In Power, RBG.

This message is great and we love KC-native Paul Rudd madly but can we also talk about how many Millennials are now raising families of their own, are most likely to be at home right now reading a book or making a new bread recipe and are the primary rule-followers in a pandemic? The confusion between Millennials and Gen Z is for another fun discussion. Meanwhile: everyone wear a mask and then tell your parents to wear one too!

Thank YOU for making Jazz on the Lawn an incredibly successful event in support of the Museum. We loved the colorful picnics, the sensational music and speakers, the respect for social distancing and safety measures, and the beautiful captures from a night that we will long remember. Thank you to longtime Modernist support Jeff Evrard for capturing so many of the best photos of the evening.
