The Hudson Project Charity 28.01.2021

For many people holidays are just another day of treatments and taking care of patients. It is our honor to help provide some Small Blessings to our friends at the Cancer Center. Having had first hand experience of the passion and love that is shown there to cancer patients, we are happy to see (masked) faces that helped take care of Phyl over 6 years ago. A special thanks to Dacia and all that helped her We had no idea that 100 Chick-fil-A meals could pretty much fill up a vehicle :) We saw the pic of Elmo and included a copy of Phyl's Memory Board. Elmo joined her throughout her journey with pics of all the areas and many of the people that cared for her.

As we all know, this has been a tough year for many. Due to the required restrictions at the Cancer Centers, we have had to adjust how we support our mission of giving Small Blessings. Through the kindness of many of you we have been able to continue, even if modified due to the pandemic. Earlier in the year we were able to provide meals and gifts to patients and caregiver for Valentines. Later we had several specific donations made to help feed the healthcare workers that h...ad to adjust their lives as they safely care for our patients. Again throughout this year we have continued to address referrals providing small blessing families and helping several to raise additional funds or addressing a specific needs. Along the way we also donated food and treats to some pups that were having a hard time as their owner battled cancer. For this holiday season we have created candy gift bags that we have and will continue to donate and will provide 100 meals from Chick-fil-A to the cancer center patients, caregivers, and staff where Phyl was treated. Working through the restrictions leaves some of us out of the personal interaction that we ususally enjoy during meal days. Given the challenges of keeping people with compromised immune system safe, we are happy to work through giving these Small Blessings in any way we can and a give big thanks to our nurse and staff friends that are a part of The Hudson Project. Thanks to you all for your continued support. People are a part of The Huson Project in so many ways. These include financial donations, donations of throw blankets, socks, and treats. We all try however we can to touch people and we are again genuinely touched by your compassion.

Our motivation in The Hudson Project is based on experiences encountered throughout our journey. These experiences lead to our charities idea of Love, Strength, Courage, Faith, and Hope. These were driven from one side by Phyl’s love for her Great Danes and Golden and on the other from what we observed as the driving forces needed in weathering the course as we faced the possibility of the end of live. During our journey we saw people with support systems and obviously besto...wed with love, and others that were alone and distressed. We saw families that abandoned cancer patients and even both husbands and wives that abandoned their spouses, either when they were diagnosis or when they just couldn’t handle the stress of being a caregiver anymore. For all of those, love can still be shown and appreciated through staff, caregivers, other patients, and even through strangers. These experiences helped lead us to our goal of giving Small Blessings. Maintaining mental and physical strength is a challenge for both patients and caregivers. Mental strength, individually or combined with a support system, is what helps us carry on even in the darkest days. Courage allows us to face things that scare us. Most people never realize the courage that they have within themselves, but again the love and strength of those around us can help build on that internal drive for a positive outcome or provide support through challenges and depression that comes with the unknown. Faith allows us to trust in something, someone, or in an outcome. Unfortunately, not everyone that has faith that they can be in the statical percentage of those that beat their cancer will do so. However, to defeat it or not, you have to have the faith that you can. Faith works to support and enhance our courage and strength in facing adversity. As in all stages in the journey, you have to focus on the potential of being among the percentage of those that reach a positive outcome. Hope for us is the expectation or desire that you will live as long and as normal a life as possible. Hope gives us the expectation, strength helps us keep moving forward, courage allow us to face adversity, faith provides trust, and love ties these all tother. Sometimes when things are tough and have been tough for awhile, even little things can give you a reprieve. Our mission has been to provide what we call Small Blessings, perhaps give a moment of positive feelings, to show people that even strangers care. That blessing might just give them a moment of relief, and perhaps a little more Love, Strength, Courage, Faith, and Hope.
