Keeping the tavern kitties fed and watered.
Hello and good day to all the fans of The Elbow Inn! I, Jayme Thompson, spent the weekend camping behind the tavern and met a man Tuesday while we were tearing down camp. This man appeared on the stage after letting himself into our closed off beer garden. It was a little startling to be intruded on in such a manner. I understand that he was eager to know when the Inn would open again for business and was asking for there to be updates. So here I am posting an update: ... Restoring The Elbow Inn is a labor of love and has been taking some time. The entire Thompson family wishes we could open our doors immediately but there a lot of things to be done. We want to get our hands dirty and build it back up, but we also know we can't do it all ourselves. Though so far all of the work has been done by family and a few friends. Soon we hope to be bringing in more helping hands to get this place up and running! For everyone that loves this place just like we do, please keep that love in your hearts and have faith that The Elbow Inn will be filled with all your beautiful faces once again! If you have any questions please always feel free to message us! <3
We've had so much rain, it's really put a hold on our outside work. We continue to work inside and watch the water of the Big Piney rise. This of course isn't the inns first rodeo, and we are confident the water will level out, but maybe not before the inn gets her feet wet. Here is a quick video taken around 1pm today down behind the inn. As terrible as flooding and high water can be, it's still kinda beautiful.
We've been working hard on restoring the siding on the old girl. It may have been hard to imagine before because of the discoloration of age and grime, but the siding is cedar. We have focused on just the front bar side for now, because we're learning, as far as wood restoration goes. The siding was gently powered washed, lightly sanded and we've begun sealing with a clear seal to protect and preserve the siding. The results have been rather incredible. We hope you all can come see it in person soon. Progress has been slower than we wanted all around but we are trying to push forward. Hope you all are staying healthy and happy. , The Thompsons
It's a drizzly and chilly Easter weekend in Devils Elbow. Today we spendt some time down by the river picking up trash from the gravel bar and fixed a door at the inn that was broken. Yesterday some metal debris gathering was done as well. Many people may not realize that The Elbow Inn sits on nearly 60 acres of land which extends far beyond the building, including the gravel bar behind it, all along the Big Piney River, down Old 66 and across old 66 and up the mountain. Th...e land is truly beautiful and when it floods, the way the river changes the gravel bar makes for interesting finds and photos. We took some pictures around the gravel bar from behind the inn to show you the unique beauty of the property from this perspective. And of course included some pics of the bridge. The Thompson family wishes you all a blessed Easter and we hope you all are staying strong during these trying times.
