The Blue Note 02.11.2020

A note from our co-owner, Matt Gerding: Happy Holidays everyone! Normally this time of year we’re hosting Holiday Soirees, Christmas Movie Brew ‘n Views, Ugly Sweater Parties, DecaDance New Years Parties and more. It breaks our heart not to be able to bring you that kind of in-person holiday cheer this December. But if you’re going to find a silver lining in the river of shit known as 2020, you might still find it around Christmas. As we pause and reflect this year, I hope... Christmas helps give us all a sense of normalcy for a few moments. For me, that feeling of Christmas is always best captured through its music. Every year I post my Christmas playlist. It’s mostly the same each year, featuring 4+ hours of my favorite versions of the classics plus lots of originals that I can’t live without each season. It leans pretty heavy into jazz and soul but pretty much every genre is represented. This year I’ve added a fresh batch of songs and tweaked a few things. I always try to pick songs that have some kind of classic/timeless and authentic vibe, that just feel like Christmas to me...and I try real hard to avoid the overly cheesy stuff with all the frills.there’s WAY too much of that out there (trust me, I’ve dug DEEP). Avoid the shuffle and spin it start to finish if you can, it’s all ordered with intention. I hope it helps fill your home with warmth and good feelings this holiday season. With Love, Christmas cheer, and hope for LOTS of live music in 2021 Matt PS The playlist is dedicated this year to the late Dr. Michael Budds who taught me how to love jazz in 2001 at the University of Missouri School of Music. I hope he’s having a cocktail with Ella Fitzgerald this Christmas. Give it a spin: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2PKPcSMvZ6gE45kjITkA4x
