During these challenging times we all need as many smiles as we can get. For kids being involved in fun activities with others their age is essential. Drama classes are perfect for bringing a smile to a child’s face, and we’ve got the research to prove it! A study done by Richard J. Deasy, entitled Critical Links: Learning in the Arts and Student Academic and Social Development, demonstrated how important drama is to a child’s well being.... The research noted that drama students Earned better grades, were less likely to drop out of school, watched fewer hours of television, were less likely to report boredom in school, had a more positive self-concept, and were more involved in community service. While other subjects such as math and science are absolutely necessary, it’s good to remember the invaluable contribution the arts have on the overall education of our children.

PIE FIGHT! Here is a wacky pie fight from our summer 2017 production "Space Warriors: The Adventure Where Everybody Gets Free Pizza!". In class we were talking about classic funny moments in movies, and we realized that no one does pie fights anymore. Many of the students had never heard of a pie fight.... So I wrote a pie fight into the finale. As you can see it was messy, crazy and so much fun. The kid got a standing ovation from the crowd. Can't wait until we can all be back together again for more zany fun! www.Dramakc.com

Thinking about having an Online Birthday Party? Here is what our Movie Star Acting parties look like. Everyone gets to be dramatic and silly as they make up a story that day. And the birthday child gets to be the center of attention.... We got great feedback from this party: "Theater of the Imagination made Shay’s birthday a huge success this year! Mr. Miles helps the kids develop improvisational characters and story lines and wraps it up in a neat video to take away. The kids had a great time! Thank you Mr. Miles!"

*RIDDLE FOR YOU TO SOLVE! Look at the picture. The boy has a pill box drawn on his red shirt. What is his injury? (Answer is below) At Theatre of the Imagination we are all about pretend. We even have Spirit Days where kids get to come up with their own crazy costume creations.... Our most popular Spirit Day is Fake an Injury Day! where the kids wear casts, bring crutches, and come up with the wackiest fake injuries ever. One student pretended to be eaten by a shark, (the stuffed shark was taped to her arm!). We think it is beneficial when young people use their imaginations to express themselves, and we’ve got the research to back it up! Psychology Today published a study that says when children play pretend they are taking on different roles to learn social skills such as communication, problem-solving, and empathy. Imaginative play is a vital component to the normal development of a child. (Answer: He has a week back. Is that not the greatest thing you have ever heard? He came up with that himself, and he is nine!) If you want some pretend in your world check out our latest Online Drama Classes at www.Dramakc.com.

1. Drama classes are school but with just the fun Drama classes are a learning environment, but one that is about fun, not grades. Tests are replaced by play. Kids play drama games that engage their imaginations. They perform a play where they read funny lines and make up silly characters. Children can come to these classes without feeling stressed. Instead they are excited to be dramatic with other students around their age. 2. Drama gives them an advantage in school... Drama teaches children how to project their voice and how to connect with their audience. These skills are exactly what they need when they have to a presentation in front of their class or a group discussion. Children who are more confident to speak up are more likely to raise their hand when they have a question. Students who are more engaged tend to get better grades. 3. Drama builds confidence The more times a student stands on a stage the more confident they become with public speaking. Whether a child is naturally confident or shy and reserved, drama helps all kids be comfortable in who they are and what they have to say.
