What a month!! We reached our goal of page likes and daily shared valuable information regarding domestic violence and also highlighted our staff accomplishments. As we move into November and focus on giving thanks, we want to take this opportunity to appreciate and say thank you to our board of directors. These are the people behind the scenes providing leadership and guidance for the daily operations of the Crisis Center. Thank you to each and every person serving on our board. Without you, we would flounder!!

Today, we want to thank our Executive Director, Becky Vermeire. Becky goes above and beyond to make sure our program is what it is today. She has accomplished more than one could imagine in her 24 years of service at the Crisis Center. Taking the center from a staff of 2 to a staff of 11 employees. Writing an international grant to take the shelter's chief means of shelter as hotel placement to a shelter with individual cottage spaces. She works day in and day out to secure funding to keep doing the work that we do. She is the cheerleader and sounding board for all staff. She rarely gets a break and still has the ability to work with a smile and a lot of laughter. Thank you, Becky, for all of your hard work. We couldn't do it without you.

At the Crisis Center, we try to create an environment that fosters dignity and respect. It is never too late to seek a relationship that provides these basic human needs.

Last night we held our 24th annual Candlelight Vigil. We will be sharing highlights from that over the next few days. We were excited to get the opportunity to celebrate our 30th anniversary as an organization. We were honored to have so many strong, empowered survivors share this milestone with us! Here's to many more years of safety, shelter and support.....

Our goal is to help the wounded heal. If you'd like to know more about how we do this, you are invited to attend our Candlelight Vigil tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the Rockaway Beach Community Center. Speak up. Speak out. Never be afraid to offer support. If you want to help, DO get involved. Silence sides with the abuser, never with the victim. Together, we can make it stop!

Our support advocates, Becca, Sherry and Teresa, are responsible for making sure cottages are clean and ready, shopping for pantry items and toiletries, transportation, answering the hotline and crisis intervention. Our overnight advocate, Linda, is responsible for crisis intervention, answering the hotline, transportation and ensuring our property is safe overnight. Thank you ladies for all of your hard work!

Domestic violence is more than physical abuse. An abuser believes in their right to exercise power and control over their victim. Healthy relationships = equality. Stay safe. Know the signs!

Safety is paramount.. always!
