MERRY CHRISTMAS! If your child has the potential to feel anxious and overwhelmed at a holiday party this year, plan ahead. Create a coping mechanism that will help prevent a panic attack. Perhaps you can find a bathroom or bedroom in your relative’s house that will likely be away from the crowds. Tell your child to go there, lay down, and breath if they are upset. If they already know where the safe space is, they will be less likely to panic when feeling overwhelmed. #holidays #panicattacks #familychristmas

Child anxiety issues tend to flare up around the holidays with big family parties and gatherings. If your child has anxiety, be sure to talk to them beforehand. ROLE PLAY possible scenarios that may crop up: lots of distant relatives will be asking questions about the child’s school life, cousins will be playing games and running about, there may be adults your child doesn’t know. Tell your child what to expect so they can be prepared, calm, and (most importantly) CONFIDENT that they’ll have a happy holiday!
