The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Committee of St. Louis, celebrated the life and legacy of the civil rights pioneer in downtown St. Louis today. This being the 52nd year, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Committee introduced a Motorcade March, rather than the traditional march commemorating Dr. King due to COVID concerns. We aim to deal with and drive out the three evils: Poverty, Racism, and Violence and help to create the beloved community for which Dr. M...artin Luther King Jr. gave his life... and if not now, when? asked Lady Merdean Gales, President, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Committee and Chairperson. St. Louis, Mayor Lyda Krewson, Harris Stowe State University President, Dr. Corey Bradford, and several other elected officials and community leaders greeted participants during the program. After their remarks, the Motorcade March began. The motorcade traveled from the Historic Old Courthouse to Fountain Park where marchers laid a commemorative wreath for Dr. King and in support of the theme: Now is the Future and the Dream is Real. Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not A Day Off! The St. Louis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will celebrate equality and diversity along with the rest of the nation during the 26th Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Dr. King’s left a strong legacy in St. Louis. He spoke in 1957, when he was 28 years old at the Kiel Auditorium during a six-day national convention held by the World Council of Churches and in 1964, at Saint Louis University to nearly 3,900 students, fa...culty, staff and community members. Throughout his sermons and speeches, Dr. King’s voice rang out with a call for us to work toward a better tomorrow. The reoccurring theme, Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not A Day Off! commemorates, honors and celebrates Dr. King’s legacy and his vision for equality for everyone. We look forward to your engagement and accomplishments in Dr. King's memory. The Bois Brule Levee and Drainage District Deficiency Correction shows the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers leading the way in delivering a successful solution to a flood risk management problem along the Mississippi River. The Bois Brule levee originally constructed in the 1950’s has been through several substantial high-water events causing the need to correct underseepage issues . The project was undertaken to restore the system to its authorized level of protection. The main deficiencies were problems with underseepage, inadequate levee grade in some sections of the levee causing the top to be below the authorized grade, and replacing undersized pump stations, said Dennis Gilmore, St. Louis District Project Manager. #ProjectSpotlight #BuildingStrong #USACE #LeveeRehab #MovingDirt

On November 6, 2020, the National Great Rivers Museum, Rivers Project and St. Louis District lost a valued member of their Volunteer team, Mr. Richard (Dick) Oliver. Dick worked at Nabisco, Singer and Associates, and Southern Illinois Sales. He started volunteering at the National Great Rivers Museum when he retired in 2006. He served as a talented tour guide and gifted the visitors with harmonica songs, his wonderful sense of humor and outgoing personality. Ol’ Man River was one of his favorites to play, but amazingly he could play any song requested. He was a United States Navy veteran and is survived by his wife, two children, one grandchild, and two great grandchildren. Rest In Peace, Mr. Oliver, and thank you for serving as a Volunteer with us. #USACE #Volunteer #Nationalgreatriversmuseum #restinpeace

Wear a life jacket at all times while on the water. The weather, water temperature, and your activity play a part in the kind of life jacket you need to wear. Man's best friend should wear a life jacket too. #USACE #LifeJacketsWornNobodyMourns #boating
