VALENTINE'S DAY BANQUET
Daily Devotional The Unloved Read Genesis 29:1 through 30:43 When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, he enabled her to conceive, but Rachel remained childless (Genesis 29:31).... It is hard not to feel sympathy for Leah’s plight. She was the wife Jacob had to take because he couldn’t have the one he really wanted. She was the plain girl never given a second glance, the daughter married off first because of birth order, not because of her worth. It had to sting deeply. Leah was unloved. But her pain was like a beacon for the One capable of loving truly and selflessly. There is a special place in the heart of God for the outcasts and misfits. For that, Christians should be eternally grateful, because humans are all misfits. Every person knows the pain of being passed over for someone better, the humiliation of not being the first choice. In this broken human world, everyone has felt unloved. But God in heaven has overcome that unloving world with the Crossan everlasting symbol of what He was willing to sacrifice to show people that no one will ever be unloved. Challenge for Today: Find a tangible way to show the outcasts in your community that they are loved. Quicklook: Genesis 29:3135
Daily Devotional Potential Read Genesis 1:1 through 3:24 The custom of making resolutions at the start of a new year has been traced as far back as the ancient Babylonians of King Hammurabi’s time. Perhaps the appeal of such resolutions is that new beginnings seem to hold incredible potential for change.... In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters (Genesis 1:12). The very first beginning was full of potential. God created, taking what was formless and empty, and giving it form and fullness. Peopleboth male and femalewere part of this creation, made in His own image. This gives humans a unique potential for relationship and creativity. The same Spirit of God who was present at the first beginning is with His people at the beginning of this year. He wants to work in their lives, even those places that feel formless and empty. God gives believers potential in this new year to grow in relationship with Him and with others and to develop the abilities He created in them. Prayer Suggestion: Lord, please help me reach my God-given potential. Quicklook: Genesis 1:18
Daily Devotional Heavenly Worship Read Revelation 5:1 through 9:21 Worship is how God’s people express love for God. In John’s vision, John wept because no one could be found worthy to open the scroll. But then the slain Lamb appeared and claimed the scroll. Suddenly, a great explosion of praise broke out in heaven.... The heavenly celebration was entirely centered on Jesus, the Lamb of God, because His death and resurrection triumphed over sin and death. Only He can open the scroll, and only He is worthy of all worship and honor. Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders (Revelation 5:11). John saw one hundred million angels gathered around, all engaged in praising the Lamb. When God’s people worship the Lord, whether through words or actions, they are connecting with the activity of heaven. Worship isn’t based on how a person feels. Worship is a lifestyle of continual praise to God because, regardless of a person’s current situation, the Lamb is always worthy to be worshiped. Thought for Today: Christ is worthy of your worship.
