Sunrise Tours

A furry (and pointy) friend greeted us this morning as we started the day! We visited the community of New Vrindaban, a Krishna group in the hills above Wheeling, where Ms. Salagram gave us a tour of the temple and told her fascinating story of her spiritual journey. We saw the spectacular Palace of Gold and then explored the impressive (and spooky) West Virginia Penitentiary before returning to the festive Oglebay Resort for the night.

After exploring Columbus this morning (10/28) we visited rural SE Ohio and The Wilds, an exotic animal breeding operation (including rare animals from China, Iran and Africa) run by the world renowned Columbus Zoo. We marveled at the size of the Big Muskie bucket, all that remains of the largest mining implement ever created, which was used to strip mine coal in the area. This evening we checked into the Oglebay Resort just outside Wheeling, WV. More surprises tomorrow!

The Sunrise Tours mystery trip 2020 spent last night in downtown Columbus and is exploring the vibrant capital of Ohio this morning, including a stop at a beautiful topiary (can you tell what painting it depicts?) and the National Veterans Memorial and Museum. All 5 men* on the tour are Veterans, adding an extra dose of poignancy to our visit. Stay tuned for more updates! * Because I know you wonder, there are 18 women on the tour.

Our mystery tour departed this morning (10/27) for destinations unknown! We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Hollyhock Hill, famous for home style meals and fried chicken since 1928, located in the Broad Ripple neighborhood of Indianapolis. One gentleman on tour recalled having dinner there with his brother over 40 years ago! Check back for more updates as we continue our journey.
