As I was running out of my office to grab a cup of tea I asked the new doorman if he wanted anything. He said, No thank you. But when I came back, he told me th...at he started to cry when I asked him, because of the many people coming and going from all the buildings he's worked at, no one ever asked him that. To be honest I don't always ask, nor do I always feel like asking when I do, but I do know that selfless service is meant to be a part of everyone's life. It takes us out of our little world and reminds us that we are all in this together. You don't have to volunteer at a homeless shelter every weekend, although that's wonderful. As one of my favorite teachers, Kitty Daly once said, "If you look behind you as you leave a building and make sure to hold the door for the next person who is coming out, this is doing yoga."
