Sugarbud Fields 30.11.2020

We finished placing the last tulip and daffodil bulbs today! The field is ready for the colder weather to come and a chance to sleep the winter months away. Planting bulbs on the farm is quite different than home gardening. We dig a trench about 6 inches deep, 4 feet wide by 50 feet long, and fill it up with bulbs. Lining them up snugly in the trench like eggs in a carton. We cover them with a thin layer of compost to hold them in place then top off the trench with all... of the soil we dug out. Last, we top the whole thing off with another inch or two of compost to feed the bulbs through the winter months. Thousands of bulbs put into place and now we patiently wait for their beauty to come next spring this was one of the very first farm jobs I tackled when I decided in the fall of 2018 to be a flower farmer.. I know it’s cheesy, but I just love this job still because it reminds me of the blind and hopeful enthusiasm I had back then and how far I have come in two short years. See more

I love the holidays, A welcomed reminder each year to utilize a heart of gratitude when reflecting upon the previous months. But, 2020 has been different, hasn’t it? So many disappointments, so many experiences lost, so much unrest and uncertainty. Yet, it has also been a year of welcomed surprises, silver linings, simple pleasures and a year of learning to live each day with a grateful heart. I have spent much of 2020 with overwhelming gratitude for the love and supp...ort that has been extended to our little family farm. I began the year wondering if I should forego flowers for growing food, in response to the uncertainty of the pandemic and what might lie ahead, but I took a leap of faith and found that others longed for the beauty of flowers as much as I do. Throughout the season, we changed our plans to meet the changing times more often than I can count. But, over and over again, we were blessed by the goodness of all of you. I have been delighted to share our journey, our blooms and our space with so many of you. We know that you have endless choices on where to make your purchases and I just want to take a minute to thank you for your choice to support a local business, you really are supporting my dream to spread joy and beauty to our community. Thank you so much. The photo above is a sneak peak of the holiday offerings to come! I will begin taking orders next week for pick-ups the second and third weeks of December. Be on the lookout for a post filled with photos of botanical wreaths, whimsical trees and lush garlands.

Feeling grateful today for all of the volunteers who have helped us prepare our field for the winter months ahead. We are SO thankful for your support (and you muscles!) Asking for help isn’t always easy for me, but it is so rewarding. Working the fields can be a very lonely job and it has been so wonderful to have some recent helpers! Thank you all for your love, your hard work and your willingness to embrace achy muscles!

Santa came early to our little farm, and he brought us a Deere! It wasn’t Rudolph, but the next best thing I can’t wait to see how the addition of a tractor changes our chores around here... my back is already grateful!

I love design days, and have had so much fun playing with various colors and textures the past several weeks, but today was extra fun because I had flowers left after I completed my orders!!! Two arrangements are available for purchase today, $35 each. I have included a few photos of each, the biggest difference being calla lily in the first arrangement and lisianthus in the second. Please message me if you are interested in adding a harvest design to your Halloween weekend!
