We are already prepping for the April General Municipal Election. Candidate filing begins December 15th and candidates will file with their local entities unless their district is in a cooperation agreement with our office we’ll have the final list of entities on November 24th. On November 19th, we’ll host our annual certification seminar for Municipal Clerks and other special districts via Zoom. This seminar is a good time for questions and answers regarding Municipal candidate filing and ballot certification.

Meet some of the heroes they are the front line of a successful election! Running a polling place takes a dedicated team that’s responsible for setup, troubleshooting and keeping everyone awake for a 14+ hour day. These people not only give up their time on Election Day, but they also take part in 2-3 hour trainings to stay updated on the latest information so that they can better serve you! Thank you again to all the Election Judges you make Democracy work!

You may think that November 3rd is the end of the election, but it’s not for our office there is still a lot of work to be done to finalize the results! On election night, all absentee ballots, mail-in ballots and polling place ballots are tabulated and the unofficial results are released (https://extcontent.stlouisco.com//eResul/el201103/2004.pdf). Any provisional ballots from Election Day and any military or overseas ballots received until 12pm on Friday are kept ...sealed until a bi-partisan team makes determinations about provisional ballots and tabulates military or overseas ballots. All ballots from polling places are ran through a counting machine to verify the number of ballots against the electronic data compiled by the ballot scanners at the polling places. A recount of ballots from a random sample (5%) of precincts is completed to ensure the accuracy of the election night results. Once verification is complete, all ballots are sealed and securely kept at the County Record Center for 22 months. Final results are posted to our website and certified to the Missouri Secretary of State’s Office within two weeks of Election Day.
