This week I was shamed for seeing my patients in nursing homes... I cried today all the way to work. In one day I diagnosed acute renal failure and UTI in a dem...entia patient (which isn’t always easy :) ). Sure the other patients were fine. But those conditions could have easily gotten worse quickly, sent them to the hospital and right into Covid 19. I’m about to see 30 patients. More than I have ever seen in one day. But I want to limit the number of days I’m in a home and their exposure to outside people. I want them seen weekly to keep them as healthy as possibly to stay out of the hospital and out of the battlefield. I wash their hands. I wear my N95. It kills me I can’t hug them or spend quality time with them. The point is I am essential to my patients! We all are essential. Don’t question our purpose. I don’t understand why we can’t uplift each other! Just because we don’t all work in the hospital doesn’t mean we aren’t working our asses off. Who wants to take my 48 hour call schedule every weekend until the Covid 19 is over? because that’s what I’m doing! Just so the world knows... We are working on bettering Telehealth but that is a limited resource, sometimes you need physical eyes, ears, and touch on the person. I love my patients that’s all I have to say.
