AQHA Founded in 1940 introduced the name "Quarter Horse" to the vocabulary no longer to be referred to as Steel Dust Horses that year and rather then close books, the stud books remained open for the Jockey Club Thoroughbreds to continue being registered with their new association American Quarter Horse Association. The founders of the Steel Dust Horse Association used the date 1939 for a cut off for any Thoroughbred foaled there after, Hence forth refusing to register any Steel Dust Horse Association applicant, entry into the SDHA containing a TB with post 1939 foaling date . Books on applicants were closed to any applicant without ancestors blood line within the data base of the SDHA by December 31, 2015.
