1st Week of Lent, Friday, 26-02-2021: Ezekiel 18:21-28 / Matthew 5:20-26: If by getting angry at someone or something solves the problem, then by all means go ahead and lash out. The consequences is you are only compounding the problem, and one thing will lead to another, in the end, you’ll end up with a bigger problem. Just like you, I have my fair share of angry moments, sometimes it is easier said than done. Did you know that excessive anger can lead to everything from the... common cold to heart attacks, from bad words to murder? With that being said, the Church asks us today: Do you allow sin or anger to master your life? The first person to hate his brother was Cain. God warned Cain: 'Why are you angry? ..Sin is crouching at the door; it desires to have you, but you must master it (Genesis 4:6-7). Sin doesn't just happen; it first grows as a seed in one's heart. Unless it is mastered, by God's grace, it grows like a weed and chokes the life out of us. Do not allow the seed of anger and evil to grow in your heart. Jesus addressed the issue of keeping the commandments with his disciples. The scribes and Pharisees equated righteousness with satisfying the demands of the law. Jesus showed them how short they had come. Jesus points to the heart as the seat of desire, choice, and intention. Unless forbidden and evil desires are uprooted and cut-out, the heart will be poisoned and the body become a slave to sin and passion. Jesus illustrates his point with the example of the commandment to not kill. Murder first starts in the heart as the seed of forbidden anger that grows within until it springs into words and actions against one's brother or neighbor. This is a selfish anger that broods and is long-lived, that nurses a grudge and keeps wrath warm, and that refuses to die. Anger in the heart as well as anger in speech or action are equally forbidden. The Lord Jesus commands by grace - take away the anger in your heart and there will be no murder. Only God's purifying love and mercy can free us from bitterness and anger. What is the antidote for overcoming anger and rage? Mercy, forbearance, and kindness spring from a heart full of love and forgiveness. God has forgiven us and he calls us to extend mercy and forgiveness towards those who cause us grief or harm. In the cross of Jesus we see the supreme example of love and the power for overcoming evil. Only God's love and grace can set our hearts and minds free from the tyranny of wounded pride and spiteful revenge. Do you harbor any anger towards another person? And are you quick to be reconciled when a rupture has been caused in your relationships? Ask God to set you free and to fill your heart and mind with his love and truth. We are called today to seek to live peaceably and charitably with all. See more

1 semana de Cuaresma, jueves 25-02-2021: Ester 4:17 / Mateo 7: 7-12: Un hombre sabio me dijo una vez que el propósito de la vida es solo no ser feliz; pero también para ser útil, para ser honorable, para ser compasivo, para hacer alguna diferencia el haber vivido y vivido bien. Nadie es inútil en este mundo que aligera la carga de otro. No hay ejercicio mejor para el corazón que agacharse y levantar a las personas. No has vivido el día de hoy hasta que hayas hecho algo por a...lguien que nunca podrá pagarte. El amor no es condescendiente y la caridad no se trata de compasión, se trata de amor. La Madre Teresa señaló que la caridad y el amor son lo mismo: con la caridad se da amor, así que no se limite a dar dinero, sino que extienda la mano. Dicho esto, la Biblia nos habla de diferentes personas que dedicaron su vida a servir a los demás, a ser la voz de los demás ante Dios. Como la reina Ester en la primera lectura, que se refugió en el Señor en el peligro mortal que la había sobrevenido, también nosotros imploramos y suplicamos al Señor que nos libere del peligro mortal y de las situaciones precarias de nuestra vida. La reina Ester dijo algo que también debemos recordar siempre. Al final de la primera lectura, dijo esto: Ven en mi ayuda, porque estoy sola y no tengo a nadie más que a ti, Señor. Y el Señor Dios vino en su ayuda y la salvó. Como dijo Jesús en el evangelio: pide y se te dará; Busca y lo encontrarás; llamen y la puerta se les abrirá. Sí, el Señor nos rescatará y salvará de los peligros mortales y las situaciones precarias de nuestra vida cuando lo invoquemos. Que también estemos dispuestos a estar al servicio del Señor cuando Él nos pida que vayamos en ayuda de los necesitados. See more

1st Week of Lent, Thursday, 25-02-2021: Esther 4:17 / Matthew 7:7-12: A wise man once told me that The purpose of life is only not to be happy; but also to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well. No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of another. There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up. You have not lived today until you have done something ...for someone who can never repay you. Love is not patronizing and charity isn't about pity, it is about love. Mother Teresa pointed out that Charity and love are the same -- with charity you give love, so don't just give money but reach out your hand instead. With that being said, the Bible tells us about different people that dedicated their lives to serve others, to be the voice of others before God. Like queen Esther in the 1st reading, who took refuge with the Lord in the mortal peril which had overtaken her, we too implored and begged the Lord to deliver us from the mortal danger and precarious situations of our lives. Queen Esther said something that we must also always remember. At the end of the 1st reading, she said this: Come to my help, for I am alone and have no one but you, Lord. And the Lord God did come to her rescue and saved her. As Jesus said in the gospel - Ask and it will be given to you; search and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Yes, the Lord will rescue us and save us from the mortal dangers and precarious situations of our lives when we call upon Him. May we also be willing to be at the Lord's service when He calls upon us to go to the help of those in need. See more

Primera semana de Cuaresma, miércoles 24-02-2021: Jonás 3: 1-10 / Lucas 11: 29-32: ¿Prestas mucha atención a las señales de advertencia? Se podrían evitar muchas muertes si la gente prestara atención a tales señales. Cuando los líderes religiosos exigieron una señal de Jesús, les dio una seria advertencia para evitar un desastre espiritual. Era característico de los judíos que exigieran "señales" de los mensajeros de Dios para autenticar sus afirmaciones. Cuando los líderes r...eligiosos presionaron a Jesús para que diera pruebas de sus afirmaciones, él dijo con tantas palabras que él es la señal de Dios y que no necesitan más evidencia del cielo que su propia persona. Los ninivitas reconocieron la advertencia de Dios cuando Jonás les habló y se arrepintieron. Y la reina de Sabá reconoció la sabiduría de Dios en Salomón. Jonás fue la señal de Dios y su mensaje fue el mensaje de un Dios misericordioso para la gente de Nínive. Desafortunadamente, los líderes religiosos no se contentaron con aceptar las señales ante sus ojos. Ellos habían rechazado el mensaje de Juan el Bautista y ahora rechazan a Jesús como el Ungido de Dios (Mesías) y no escuchan su mensaje. Simeón había profetizado en el nacimiento de Jesús que estaba destinado a la caída y el levantamiento de muchos en Israel, y a ser una señal a la que se opondrá para que se revelen los pensamientos internos de muchos (Lucas 2: 34-35). Jesús confirmó su mensaje con muchos milagros en preparación para la señal más grande de todas: su resurrección al tercer día. El Señor Jesús vino para liberarnos de la esclavitud del pecado y los deseos dañinos. A través del don del Espíritu Santo, derrama su amor en nuestros corazones para que podamos comprender su voluntad para nuestras vidas y caminar en su camino de santidad. Dios escudriña nuestros corazones, no para condenarnos, sino para mostrarnos dónde necesitamos su gracia salvadora y su ayuda. Él nos llama a buscarlo con verdadero arrepentimiento, humildad y honestidad para ver nuestros pecados por lo que realmente son: un rechazo de su amor y voluntad por nuestras vidas. Dios nos transformará si escuchamos su palabra y permitimos que su Espíritu Santo obre en nuestras vidas. Pídale al Señor que renueve su mente y aumente su sed de su sabiduría y verdad. Santiago dice que la sabiduría de arriba es primero pura, luego pacífica, amable, abierta a la razón, llena de misericordia y buenos frutos, sin incertidumbre ni falta de sinceridad (Santiago 3:17). Una persona de doble ánimo no puede recibir este tipo de sabiduría. El único de espíritu desea una sola cosa: el placer de Dios.
