Last chance for Gardens Aglow is tonight!
We are disappointed to cancel Gardens Aglow for Saturday, January 2, 2021. The ice has downed several limbs from the trees in the garden and our staff are work...ing to get the garden back in shape before reopening. We hope to open for the last scheduled day, Sunday, January 3, 2021. Stay tuned for any updates or changes. See more

Sustainable gardening pro tip: Creating a succulent centerpiece will last for weeks, maybe months as a living floral arrangement. When the pumpkin container gets soft, simply cut the cap off the top, place plants in the garden and the pumpkin in the compost! Sign-ups now open for the Oct 17 workshop! Call 417-891-1515 ext 2.
Flamingo Pineapple Pink mum!
Fasciation, also known as cresting, is an interesting mutation in plants that causes the stem or flowers to grow wide. Cockscomb, fishtail willow and some cactuses are specifically grown for this effect, but it can be seen on any vascular plant, such as the globe amaranth seen here. The hormone imbalance that causes this could be instigated by any environmental factor, viruses, bacteria, frost, radiation among other things.
Thank you Expedia for reaching the far ends of the garden today! Expedia staff volunteered their time again today to mulch the Dwarf Conifer Garden, Ethnic Life Stories Trail of Trees, and the Ornamental Grass Jungle.
Thanks Expedia! Wednesday's Day of Caring included more painting at the Farmstead and Liberty School and mulch spreading at the Brentwood Garden Quad and Audubon's Native Trail. We appreciate Expedia for allowing staff to volunteer in our gardens!
