The Speakeasy- Poetry and Spoken Word Review 25.01.2021

Per updated Covid restrictions, operating hours are now 4 PM to midnight, Tuesday through Saturday. As usual, we are first come, first served always. We will co...ntinue to operate on a diminished capacity to maintain social distancing, and will continue to enforce the mask mandate, and to collect contact tracing information. We are also continuing with cocktails ‘to go’ for those who are more comfortable staying home. Frankie says, Cheers, and be well!

Hey all- while the Speakeasy is still on hiatus, we hope you all are staying safe out there! I'm happy to report that my current outfit of my Spiderman costume and pirate hat are quite comfortable. Raise a glass!

We have been blessed with some awesome regulars, who occasionally bring us some special accent pieces. It’s these pieces that really tie the room together, beca...use ultimately hospitality is about people and the relationships we share. Swordfish Tom’s...Social Distancing Since 2017 Cheers!

We're still staying at home on hiatus (lamenting not having Jill Cockson's amazing drinks), Marcia Epstein is back on air with her podcast Talk With ME. Raise a glass!

Thank you to everyone who came out to show support, this past week. It was great to reconnect with regulars and the community. We know not everyone is comfortab...le heading back into social routines. We look forward to earning the reputation as a space that takes your health seriously. We will continue our mask policy, distance seating, and additional sanitization protocols as long as necessary to protect the health of guests and staff, alike. We are lucky that, as we are not a ‘mingles’ bar, we are naturally geared for social distancing. That said, we respect those choosing to take their time returning, and look forward to seeing you when you feel it is safe to do so! Frankie says, Stay safe. Be well. Make cocktails, not war. Cheers!

I question to my poet friends: how do you feel about reading with a mask on? Edit* Okaaaay, that got heated fast. I guess I should have figured the way things a...re it would, and I didn't, and I apologize for that. Nor was this about the Speakeasy- when Jill and I agree, it might be back, but only when it works, or not at all. I'm proud of the poetry events I've been a small part in making happen over too many years, and haven't made a dime, and loved each one (except for all the bad ones...). So basically never mind, sorry I brought this up, I just thought at the time it was an interesting question. Now that I've written the longest thing I have in years, I'm going to have a nice whiskey and watch Star-girl. See more

Traci Brimhall was one of the poets set to read at the Speakeasy@Swordfish Tom's that had to be cancelled due to the plague. Check out her interview, and we'll get her to read in our basement boiler room (with drinks) at a future event. Raise a glass!
