Simon Oswald Architecture loved working with Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri to reimagine their existing building. Together we envisioned new spaces and created a more usable and efficient plan. This renovation will take them to the next level of service for #MidMissouri. #reuse #repurpose #adaptivedesign

SOA DESIGNER'S TIP... When planning for wall-mounted hardware and products SOA specifies SHEET METAL BACKING to be installed before the drywall goes on. WHY? Any product which is heavy or may hold heavy items such as cabinets, light fixtures, TVs and shelving needs to be attached to the structure. ... Make it easy on your contractor and use sheet metal applied directly to the wall studs. It is thin and provides a true structural connection for any fastener, especially when you are not close to a stud. Quoting Paul Warner, Principal at Lighting Associates, LLC. in St. Louis, during a discussion on wall-mounted light fixtures, "You gotta have backing!" This is the way to do it. SOA's architect Nick Borgmeyer and Coil Construction presented the latest design documents for Boone Electric Cooperative. SOA uses Autodesk Revit to create 3 dimensional design drawings and Enscape software to produce photo realistic renderings to help our clients visualize and understand the design. I just discovered 'Wabi Sabi' This is a Japanese aesthetic principle from Buddist teachings which finds beauty in the imperfect, accepts impermanence in life, and the incomplete: nothing lasts/nothing is finished/nothing is perfect. For designers it embraces the natural, blemished and unrefined. Maybe that is why we often gravitate towards asymmetry, simplicity, raw materials and chasteness in design. Fond memories-55 yrs ago outdoor movies were shown at the Broadway Drive-in located on the site where Gerbes on Ash Street now resides. Ozark Airlines would oft times fly over the drive-in on final approach to the municipal airport. Two shows at once. It is full circle now to have movies at Cosmo! This is very exciting. Thank you to The Loop and Columbia Parks and Recreation Need to fire up the VistaCruiser, bring blankets and pillows to sit on the hood.

SOA is excited to see the erection of structural steel and roof joists on the YMCA of Callaway County job site. It is reassuring to have Professional Contractors & Engineers, Inc. as the contractor and project lead. Looking forward to the roof install and drying in the interior.

SOA is deep into the Design Development phase of Boone Electric Cooperative new headquarters and working on renderings. Critical to the success of the project is @CrockettEngineering work on site. Soil borings will provide important geotechnical information for their structural engineers to design the foundations for the new two-story office and community room buildings.
