For anyone who was unable to attend Msgr Blacet's memorial at Good Counsel: Old St. Patrick's Oratory will have a Requiem Mass next Saturday, July 11th at 8am for Msgr. Blacet.

Thank you to everyone who as able to attend Monsignor's burial this afternoon. Special thanks to the Our Lady of Good Counsel choir for their beautiful voices to send off our beloved Monsignor. May his soul and the souls of all of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest In Peace.

Funeral Mass for Monsignor William J. Blacet

As a reminder, we will NOT have confessions or our regularly scheduled daily mass today. Instead, we will live-stream Monsignor Blacet's funeral at 12:00pm for all who would like to attend virtually Burial will take place shortly after mass at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Raytown. While the funeral is closed to the public, we hope to see many of you at the burial.... "Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him"

Monsignor Blacet's body arrived at 1:00pm today. The church will remain open for visitation until 9:00pm this evening.

Good People of Good Counsel, Just a reminder for those of you who are planning on attending Msgr. Blacet's memorial: Mayor Lucas has mandated that masks are to be worn when you are out and about in Kansas City. The Diocese of Kansas City - St. Joseph has a policy that masks are to be worn when entering and exiting the church. We would hate to get in trouble with the city as we try to honor Msgr. Blacet over the next three days.

Good People of Good Counsel, Earlier this week, our Diocese lost one of it’s longest serving and most dedicated priests. Msgr. Blacet was a priest for over 73 years and became pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel back in 1992. Our beautiful church in Westport could never hold (in a single liturgical service) everyone from across the Diocese who wants to come and pay their respects to Msgr. Blacet. Our society is also still in the midst of a global pandemic where we are asked ...to follow certain safety guidelines and practice social distancing. This will further limit the number of people that can be inside the church at any one time. After a good deal of consultation and planning, in order to accommodate everyone who wants to come and pay their respects to Msgr. Blacet, we will be providing an extended visitation service that will take place over the course of the two days prior to Msgr. Blacet’s funeral Mass. Attached you will find a full schedule of what is being offered. We will be praying several Rosaries and Chaplets of Divine Mercy, and many of Msgr. Blacet’s brother priests will be offering a few words on the life of Msgr. Blacet and how he has inspired and influenced their own priesthood. As you look at the full schedule, rather than trying to attend everything, we respectfully ask that you pick a specific time over the two days to come and pay your respects. This way we can accommodate as many people as possible over the course of the two days. Msgr. Blacet’s funeral Mass will be closed to the public. We will live stream his funeral Mass and you can watch it via Facebook or on our parish website: www.goodcounselkc.org/blacet Just having Msgr. Blacet’s brother priests in attendance will fill almost all of our seating capacity. While the funeral Mass is closed to the public, those who wish to come to the cemetery for the burial are welcome to come to that. I realize these are unusual circumstances. Good People of Good Counsel, This evening Bishop Johnston went to see Msgr. Blacet and anointed him. Fr. Johnson was there as well and led the chaplet with Msgr. and the Archers. ... Msgr. Blacet welcomes your prayers at this time. We entrust him into the hands of Our Blessed Mother who loves him as a beloved son.

Good People of Good Counsel, State and local authorities recently issued guidelines for the opening up of our society, and that includes the ability to responsibly gather together as a parish for Mass.
