Mitch and I wish a speedy recovery to Mayor Baird! The Mayor’s diagnosis has been a reminder to us that COVID is present in our community and how important it is that we all practice social distancing, wash our hands and take all possible precautions to keep ourselves and our families safe. As the Mayor said in his message, by following these guidelines he avoided exposing more vulnerable family members *before* he found out he was sick. It is up to all of us to do our part to slow the spread and protect the most vulnerable in our community.

Yesterday I received a call from a man who met my mom two years ago when he voted for me for State Senate. He wanted to let me know how proud she was of me. That is the kind of impression my mom makes - two years after meeting her someone would call up a total stranger to let them know how proud their mom was. So you can imagine how meaningful it was to have her by my side last night when I was sworn in to begin my term on the City Council. I promise to work hard every day to live up to the faith she and the people of Lee's Summit have placed in me.

Tomorrow night I will begin my term as a Lee's Summit City Councilmember. There are so many people who helped make this possible, and I wish that you could all join us for the ceremony. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and social distancing requirements, we are only able to have a small group attend in person. If you want to watch from the comfort of your own home, the City will be live streaming the swearing in beginning at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 23rd. You can watch ...online at: https://cityofls.net/news-media/watch-lstv. Thank you again to everyone who voted, made calls, knocked doors or donated to our campaign. I can't wait to get to work serving our community!

Happy Juneteenth! Today we celebrate the emancipation of enslaved people in 1865. While our country has not always lived up to its promise that all people are created equal, we know that progress is possible. It is up to all of us to continue working together to form a more perfect union. https://www.kansascity.com/news/local/article243577697.html

The COVID19 Pandemic remains a serious issue for our community - especially our seniors and people with comprised immune systems. Please practice social distancing and wear a mask when you are around others to protect them and yourself. https://lstribune.net//john-knox-village-staff-members-t/
