This is the Plum Blossom design from the Blue Series of our Kung Fu Cups. Our Kung Fu Tea Cups are made of only high quality, lead-free porcelain. We chose porcelain because it is sturdy, easy to clean, and (in our opinion) the best material to use when brewing tea. Personally designed by Shang, these cups were hand-made in the Eastern Jade Porcelain Studio of Dehua County, Fujian Province, which is operated by Shang’s friend, Mr. Zheng. These porcelain cups are dishwasher safe and have been fired four times, with the design applied during the last firing session. The Plum Blossom is highly prized in Chinese culture. Representative of winter, the plum blossom also symbolizes peace, happiness, and blessings. Available in the shop and online at shangtea.com

This week is mooncake week! Why this week? This is the week of the Mid-Autumn Festival, where mooncakes are traditionally sent to friends and family. Do you know what mooncakes are and have you tried one? Mooncakes are a pastry that traditionally have a wheat flour crust with some variety of thick, rich filling. In eastern cultures, mooncakes are primarily served during the previously mentioned Mid-Autumn Festival, but here at Shang's Tea House we have mooncakes availabl...e all year round! Our in-house made mooncakes have an organic wheat flour crust with organic sugar, and we offer two different fillings: lotus seed and red bean with organic dark chocolate. The lotus seed mooncake has a nutty, creamy flavor that is reminiscent of peanut butter (but doesn't contain any nuts), while the red bean mooncake with organic dark chocolate has more of an earthy sweetness. If you haven't tried one of our mooncakes (which are vegan), come to the shop and try them both to see which one you like the best! Spoiler alert--they are both delicious and definitely worth trying! You can't get tea without water, and the quality of water that is used when brewing tea is very important. When brewing tea, we highly recommend using some form of filtered water (we utilize reverse osmosis filtered water in the shop for tea brewing) for two main reasons--health and taste. Using filtered water helps remove potentially harmful substances from the water, which in turn helps preserve the overall integrity and health benefits of our tea. Filtered water also has a more pure taste than unfiltered water, allowing the flavor of our teas to shine through and not be compromised. If you currently don't use filtered water when brewing our teas, we encourage you to try using filtered water--we believe you will definitely notice the difference.
