A woman and her elderly mother who live in the Mark Twain neighborhood were alerted to a fire Dec. 20 by a smoke alarm installed by the Springfield Fire Department last year, providing them time to escape safely. Read the full release at https://www.springfieldmo.gov/civicalerts.aspx?AID=7622.
Truck 8 visited a very special patient @Mercy Hospital Springfield this afternoon. Wishing him and his family the very best!
Festive decorations, flickering lights and winter greens are hallmarks of the holiday season, but they also present fire risks. The good news is that most of these fires are preventable. Full release at https://www.springfieldmo.gov/civicalerts.aspx?AID=7612.
We appreciate our continued partnership with Springfield Public Schools, Springfield, MO to teach Hands Only CPR classes! During 2020, our sessions went virtual.
"Spring forward" and "fall back" serve as a good reminder to check the batteries and test smoke alarms, review fire escape plans and check fire extinguishers. Full release at https://www.springfieldmo.gov/civicalerts.aspx?AID=7466.
It's Firefighter Friday! Firefighter Levi Ulmer has been with the Springfield Fire Department for 4 years. He is currently assigned to Station 9, C Shift. My favorite part about being a Firefighter is the spontaneity of it. Anything could happen at any given time during the day, so it keeps things really lively and fun. I also really love when Equipment Operator Keeney makes Keller’s famous egg roll bowl. It’s delicious! Thank you for your service Firefighter Ulmer!
Fifth-graders, our last Fire Prevention Month video is just for you. Firefighter Geoff wants to teach you about the fire triangle. https://vimeo.com/454353608/c675427b77
As temps drop, we want to remind citizens to be safe when heating homes. Heating is one of the top causes of residential fires in the Springfield community. Full release at https://www.springfieldmo.gov/civicalerts.aspx?AID=7453.
National First Responders Day on October 28 recognizes the heroic men and women who protect us and respond to our emergencies every day. We thank each and every one of you!
We received this great photo and note today. Hello Springfield Fire Department! My grandmother Jo Clopton found this old poem in her classroom materials from Sunshine Elementary. She said David Pennington is the Chief at SFD so I thought you might get a kick out of this old poem about cats! Thank you, Mrs. Clopton, for encouraging generations of kids to dream big.
It's Firefighter Friday! Rescue Specialist Tony Fields has been with the Springfield Fire Department for 6 years. He is currently assigned to Station 4, A shift. RS Fields is also on the Haz-Mat team, Water Rescue team, and the Tech Rescue team. My favorite part about working for the Springfield Fire Department is getting the opportunity to serve the community in a mentally and physically challenging way. Thank you for your service Rescue Specialist Fields!
Fourth and fifth-graders, you are probably learning how to cook! Firefighter Justine wants to remind you and your parents about kitchen safety. https://vimeo.com/442359902/ccca99a61a
