As State Treasurer, I administer MO ABLE, a savings and investment program for Missourians with disabilities and their families. Similar to a 529 account, the money contributed to a MO ABLE account is eligible for a state income tax deduction and it grows tax-free. What makes MO ABLE a game-changer for individuals with disabilities, though, is that the money in the accounts is also exempt from means-testing for federal benefits like Medicaid and SSI. Because individuals with... disabilities are now able to save using a MO ABLE account without the fear of losing their necessary federal benefits, more individuals with disabilities can have jobs and plan for future expenses such as a car or home. I am writing because October is Disability Employment Awareness Month. This month we are partnering with the Missouri Chamber and regional chambers across the state to raise awareness about MO ABLE to employers and encourage you to add payroll deductions for MO ABLE accounts to your benefits package. As employers and influential members in your communities, your leadership on this is meaningful. Adding direct deposit for MO ABLE accounts makes it easier for employees with disabilities to save their hard-earned money. This is not a big askbut it can have a big impact. This adds a no-cost benefit to companies while promoting inclusion and bringing financial parity to your workforce. It also empowers employees with disabilities to save. Launched in 2017, MO ABLE currently has almost 1,700 accounts. This makes MO ABLE one of the largest programs in the country, but we know far more Missourians can benefit. We also know that individuals with disabilities can be beneficial additions to a workplace and deserve the same opportunities as others. Adding direct deposit opportunities for MO ABLE helps level the financial playing field and spread the word about this valuable program. Together, we can help Missourians living with disabilities gain financial security and a brighter future. We hope you’ll join us in this initiative. For more information, please contact my office at [email protected]. We’d love to talk to you about MO ABLE and welcome you to the team. Thank you, Scott Fitzpatrick Missouri State Treasurer

Attached is the latest community testing schedule for COVID-19 Community Testing Sites October 18-24 in Hillsboro, Mineral Point, Cape Girardeau, Mountain Grove, Buffalo, Lamar, and Houston. Testing is FREE! The only requirement is the person being tested must be a Missouri resident. Register for testing at: www.health.mo.gov/communitytest or contact the COVID Hotline at 877-435-8411. While they do ask that you register prior to attending, they do have open slots for ‘walk-ins’ also and will fit you in if you don’t register.

Most people know that Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a staunch champion for women’s rights but she also believed in equal rights for people with disabilities. She was a women of true grit and integrity who never backed down from her belief in making the world a better place for EVERYONE. Please read this article on RBG’s majority opinion on the case, Olmstead vs L.C. This decision changed the lives of people with disabilities forever, giving them equal access to living in their own homes in their own communities. Ruth Bader Ginsburg you will be missed.
