Just because you’re getting older, doesn’t mean you need to give up your independence! By taking extra precautions and staying honest with your family and physician, you can continue navigating the roads safely for many years to come.

Talking to an aging parent about safety on the road is no simple task. Thankfully there are steps you can take to preserve their autonomy, while looking out for everyone’s best interest on the road. 1 Be positive, supportive and respectful. 2 Focus on the facts. 3 Evaluate if adaptive equipment would be beneficial. 4 Make safety a priority.

In a year full of bad decisions, don’t end it with one more. If you’ve been drinking, don’t get behind the wheel.
