This is a video about the history of one of the longest running events in the state; the Reunion of the Blue and Gray.
I ran across this very interesting item on ebay. Of course, I cannot afford it with a starting bid of $500.00, but I thought I should tell you-all about it. It ...is an original carte de visite (CDV) photograph of Gen. James H. McBride. He moved to Houston, MO, in 1859 and was elected Circuit Judge. When the Civil War began in 1861, Missouri Governor Claiborne Jackson give him an appointment of Brigadier General and command of the Missouri State Guard 7th Division. The photo was taken by a St. Louis studio. I don’t know the exact year, but it was probably in 1860/61. The CDV was a small photo that was developed on a cardstock (paper) backing. They appeared just before the Civil War. The previous types of photographs, such as the Daguerreotype, were expensive cased photo. They were also one-of-a-kind photos that could not be reproduced. The CDV was the first photo that was developed from a glass negative. The photographer usually offered special deals to buy multiple copies, such as 10 for $1. Is it worth $500.00? Honestly, I don’t know. It seems rather high priced to me but I don’t recall ever seeing another example. The Confederate photos are usually much rarer and more valuable than the Union example. Some General had lots of photos made to give away to friends. Others may have only ordered a few for close friends and relatives. Anyway, the photo is on ebay at: http://www.ebay.com/itm/112583226884?ul_noapp=true To read about James H. McBride, see the Wikipedia article at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_H._McBride
You might be interested... or not? Please disregard if the post's content clashes with anyone's personal views. In that case, you have my sincere apology! This is a good movie! Although on Netflix, I also found it on Youtube with foreign captions. While not glorifying the South, neither does it deify the North. I thought it was very honest for the most part! I was quite impressed! (Ignore the foreign captions. The audio is recorded in English.)... https://youtu.be/K0gioh255w8
