Over There: Missouri and the Great War Exhibit brings together resources from archives, museums, and collections across the state to allow Missourians from many... communities to learn about the state’s role in WWI in ways that they might not otherwise be able to do without traveling to another city. The exhibit broadens interest in history, helps residents connect to local history and Missouri heritage, and promotes tourism in a variety of Missouri communities. Created by the Greene County Public Library, Springfield, Missouri. The exhibit, sponsored and supported by the History program at UCM, the Kirkpatrick library, and the UCM Military and Veterans Services program, will be on display in the Kirkpatrick Library on the campus of the University of Central Missouri during the normal operating hours of the library from March 1, 2021 to May 7, 2021. Before the Louisiana Purchase, travel in what is now Missouri was difficult and often time-consuming. The Mississippi River and local streams provided the major... means of transportation for the initial settlements in Ste. Genevieve, St. Louis, Cape Girardeau, and New Madrid. Pirogues, Bateaux, and canoes paddled or poled by humans transported both people and goods. Learn more about the Historic Highways in Ste. Genevieve County, in the community legacy report and about how to submit your own community legacy here: https://bit.ly/39DuH9g See more

August 10, 2021, marks the 200th anniversary of Missouri statehood. Missouri 2021 encourages communities across the state to commemorate the day with an ice cre...am social! Nothing brings people together like ice cream, and an ice cream social is a most appropriate way to celebrate Missouri, since the ice cream cone is the official state dessert! Your community's participation in the statewide Missouri 2021 Ice Cream Social could take various forms - from partnerships with ice cream shops large and small to parking lot meet-ups organized by local organizations, from specially created flavors for the day to old favorites made in hand-crank ice cream machines. The choice is yours! **Registration is open to businesses and non-profit organizations. **The only other requirements are that you register your event and plan to hold your ice cream social on the afternoon or evening of Tuesday, August 10, 2021. We hope that you join us and share photos of your ice cream social using the hashtag: #ScoopsAcrossMissouri Learn more and register here: https://bit.ly/3p6HWVk

Short Term School Closure Announcement - November 12, 2020 Scott City R-1 Parents/Guardians,... As we navigate through this pandemic, the health and safety of our school and community is one of our top priorities. The decisions we make are centered around the overall safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community. We believe it is our responsibility to continuously monitor the situation and take an active stance. In the last week we have seen a significant rise in the amount of staff and students that are being quarantined due to COVID-19 exposure. With the rise in numbers we have made the decision to temporarily shut down our school. Starting Monday, November 16, we will close through the end of the month. Students will return to school on Tuesday, December 1. During this closure, we will be using our AMI-X (Alternative Methods of Instruction) plans. These plans include Google Classroom, SeeSaw, and paper packets. In September, paper copies of the AMI-X plan were sent home for students that marked that they did not have internet/devices. Students will be receiving any additional materials before they leave school on Friday. Devices will not be sent home during this seven day closure. During our closure we will be offering meal deliveries. Meals will be delivered on Mondays (November 16 and November 23) and will include a five day supply of food. We will be using the same routes that we used last year. Our buses will leave the school at 10:00 am. Our goal is to protect in-person learning while implementing actions to slow the spread of COVID-19. Vigilance to these actions will minimize the risk of transmission. We understand the burden that this puts on our families and apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. We are humbled by the support and grace that has been given to us by our community and S.C. family. Thank you for your support during these challenging times. We are doing our best to be proactive so that we can educate your child to the highest standards. During this closure, offices will have reduced hours. If you have questions you can call the office from 9:00 am - 12:00. If you have any questions please feel free to contact your building administrator. Sincerely, Michael Umfleet, Superintendent [email protected]

Had some more work done at the courthouse so Jo Smith and I toured it this evening and enjoyed the view. Our porch lights now work and have a switch so they don...’t have to come on every night (bugs, bugs, bugs, ugh!) We’ll post a better picture of the ceiling fans and lights when we get it all straightened up. These will help with interior condensation issues we have when temperatures rise quickly in late winter and early spring. Great job, David Hale and Heather Wilburn! I forgot to mention that the retaining wall in front on the dungeon entrance side was also just repaired by JR Welch of Cape Girardeau, thanks to a generous donation from a friend of the courthouse.
