Today was our annual field luncheon, only it was a lunch-in and everyone met over the lunch hour in their respective agencies on Zoom. I would like to give a HUGE shout out to this amazing group of field instructors who provided the space, time, and guidance to the 2020 Social Work Cohort. We could not have a program without a community willing to serve in this capacity. Thank you! Congratulations students! Field is behind you, now go tackle your last week of finals!

#MajorMonday: SBU's Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree program is equipping students to be servant leaders in the much-needed social work profession. Social w...ork students complete practicum and internship opportunities that provide valuable real-world experience, and also have the unique opportunity to provide support services at SBU's pro-bono physical therapy faculty practice clinic. SBU's BSW degree is fully accredited. 100% of the 2018 social work graduates were employed or admitted into graduate school within 30 days of graduation from SBU. Thank you to all the students, faculty, and community facilitators who participated in the Interprofessional Education SBAR Learning Event on Tuesday and Thursd...ay last week! In total, nearly 200 students participated along with faculty and community volunteers from the UMKC pharmacy school Springfield campus, SBU first semester ASN nursing program, SBU Social Work Program, and SBU Physical Therapy DPT program! Preparing students to be team ready through participation in team communication, learning roles and responsibilities, and discussing values and ethics between professionals. GO TEAM! The SBU Social Work Program would like to say congratulations to our 25th President, Dr. Eric A. Turner, on his inauguration.

While Black History Bingo has already come and gone, there are other events happening this month to celebrate Black History! Tonight at 7pm is BSU’s difficult topics discussion at the Taylor Auditorium. We look forward to seeing our very own Mr. Walker facilitate the discussion and many students participate! Also be sure to follow BSU on Instagram; they are an integral part of the SBU community and are focused on bridging the racial gap on campus in a loving and inclusive way.
