Prayer for a waiting day in the United States by Maren Tirabassi God, help a country divided not to stand up,... but to learn to sit down. Sit beside us, waiting. Open our hearts to the great that is justice, and the great that is compassion. Be present with all of us who experience anxiety and fear in spiritual, emotional and physical symptoms. Lighten us as we speak with children, with those who are older and feel vulnerable, lest our words linger longer than any vote. And thank you, God, for lightening me with the where-did-this-come-from internal suggestion to wear the outfit that always reminds me about mindful eating. amen.

To the person or persons who destroyed our Black Lives Matter banner....we will pray for you and ask God to bless you. We also grieve for you ....that your rage led you to unhealthy action, for if in your heart you felt destruction was the only response that gave you joy in the moment, the shame you will feel will be even greater. Destroying our banner does not change our belief and only changes you because you allowed yourself to succumb to your rage. May the Lord bless and heal you.

Today we opened our sanctuary for our national election. We hope all that enter will experience a sense of peace....of sanctuary. We offer this prayer for all who may feel anxious today. A Prayer for Election Anxiety Our Heavenly Father, Thank you for being with us and for sending the Holy Spirit to comfort us and to guide us. Lord, right now it feels like there is so much at stake, and there is a lot of anxiety about the upcoming election. People are worried. Your Word says... to be anxious for nothing, but in everything to come to You; We ask that you provide peace and comfort to the worried hearts of this country right now. Relieve their anxiety by helping them to focus on You and your will. Help those who feel anxious to instead feel Your presence. Please diffuse the spirit of anxiety across the nation, bringing understanding between all people. Reign over us, O Lord, instead of fear. In the name of Jesus We pray, Amen.

Prayer for people who are unhoused by Maren Tirabassi God, we pray for our hearts and minds to be open to people who are living with homelessness,... to see them not as vagrant or objects of pity and never as there-but-for-the-grace-of-God-go-I, but as there she goes, there he goes, surrounded by God’s grace, help me learn from them. God, we pray for the wisdom to offer there-with-the-grace-of-humans, to find new ways to give friendship and respectful assistance, to reach out and surround with love so many people who are unhoused for so many different reasons. For those newly without homes in this year’s financial losses, we pray. For those who circumstances pull them into poverty that becomes more poverty, we pray. For those who need shelter because they were rejected where they lived or are fleeing domestic violence, we pray. For those with untreated mental illnesses, or choices that unsettle us, we pray. For those who are couch surfing, living on the shelter and meal circuit, lifting cardboard requests for help, gathering precious things in grocery carts, tenting because they cannot bear being indoors, living in itinerant community, we pray, AMEN
