Curves and lines: the design staples of the 1930s. The #bixbyhouse has curves throughout, including in windows, walls (that are left), and on the exterior. These are paired with linear patterns throughout. Luckily most of the original metal windows remain extant. I had the opportunity to preview the #bixbyhome at 6505 State Line today, which was amazing and super sad at the same time. This moderne home was built in 1936 and is currently on the National Register of Historic places. Unfortunately, that doesn’t provide the level of protection needed to preserve an architecturally-significant hone such as this one. The home was most-recently sold to an investor who completely destroyed the interior, including beautiful tile floors, a cust...om kitchen to fit the style of the home, casework, and more. This is the type of home that architecture lovers would kill to get their hands on! Here are some photos of the entryway with curved aluminum railings with crystal balls, gorgeous spiral light fixture, spiral plaster ceiling, aluminum lighting down the basement stairs to the former rumpus room , and Art Deco exterior metal doors with mini Empire State buildings for hinges! Unfortunately the rumpus room bar has been gutted and all finishes have been removed. I would have loved a Pendergast-era cocktail down there.
