Bennett Spring is, of course, the largest spring in the Niangua River basin, and the northernmost 1st magnitude spring in Missouri. However, there are several ...other beautiful and interesting springs in the basin. I'll show three that are near and downstream of Bennett. Famous Blue Spring is actually a short distance upstream of Spring Hollow's confluence with the Niangua, but a bit north of Bennett. It's companion spring, Sand Spring, is a short distance downstream of Famous Blue Spring on the Niangua at Sand Spring Resort. These springs are hydrologically connected; fluorescent dye introduced into losing streams to the south of the springs was recovered at both of them, showing that they are part of a multiple outlet spring system. Finally, Sweet Blue Spring is several miles farther downstream on the west side of the Niangua. Hahatonka, Sweet Blue and Bennett springs share a recharge area that includes part of the upper Niangua River basin, Goodwin Hollow, and Dry Auglaize Creek.
