Happy Founder's Day! Today, June 12, 2021 is the 118th anniversary of our organization. In the past 118 years, many things have changed for #womeninmusic. Our founders could not have imagined the world we live in today. Although there are many more steps to take to make this industry more inclusive and accessible, today we celebrate the strides made up to this point. We look forward to a year of growth, learning, and fraternity among musicians and within our organization! Vita brevis ars longa

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM)! As an organization for musicians, we’re often looking for ways to connect community action with music. This blog post from Decolonizing the Music Room has some great resources and suggestions for celebrating APAH in the music classroom! Especially with the events of the last year and the increased tension and prejudice toward Asian Americans surrounding COVID-19, taking time to learn about and appreciate Asian American cultures year-round (not just for one month) is important.
Happy Charter Day to all current and former Columbia Alumnae affiliates! On May 17, 1969 the Columbia Alumnae Chapter was installed by Blanche Hoffman, National Vice President of Alumnae Activities. Founding members included 14 Alumnae and Patroness members.
