Finally coming to end of the journey with this saddle build for Brandon Bass. By Dennis Asberry and assistance from Charles Painter. It’s been educational as much as the fun and enjoyment in building it!... This is my own design and creativity of a close contact, lightweight saddle. It’s got a Precision Cavlar wrapped tree, Herman Oak 10-15oz saddle skirting, new shearling one piece rigging rings, rawhide wrapped horn. It also has 3/8 neoprene seat padding along 3oz suede seat in which I designed and applied using pyrography. Same design was cut and applied to the fenders. Then dyed using Antique Dark Brown.
This transformation from a just tan show saddle into a Swan!!!! Charles Painter, Dennis Asberry
ATTENTION ALL SADDLES CUSTOMERS: Beginning February 1, 2021 here at SaddleThunder Saddlery our prices will be increasing. I’ve held back for several years, I can no longer operate with constant price increases from vendors. This includes oils, conditioners, finishes, dyes, leather materials and supplemental items utilized in the shop to make your saddles beautiful and almost new.... If you have your saddle/tack/project with me or scheduled you will not be impacted. Shop and Cleaning costs will be increased by $30 on all tiers. Leather goods will be adjusted based on vendor supplies at my costs. Hardware will also be adjusted based on my costs. As many know and have experienced with me I charge what the vendors charge me. As for labor services, I believe those will remain the same going forward. I’ll advise if this will change. I hope this will not deter you from continuing to me for all your saddle / leather / project needs.

Well I finally finished the R.T.Frazier as customer requested. I was asked to keep it same shape with leathers. I had to do some creative pieces to make it all look fluid, while keeping the saddles integrity intact. I’m showing before & after pics...enjoy~~~
Beginning another full restoration project. This one is going to be a serious challenge. Replicating tooling, repairing the leather in multiple areas. It’s definitely old school from late 1890-1900. The best part is the tree is 100% sound! It’s definitely a puzzle to recreate and bring back to life in a as-is scenario! Will post updates as I go. Added new updates of pictures to the saddles progress.
This is why you shouldn’t put your saddle inside a travel bag and leave it in a humid environment. It came into shop completely covered in mold. Some white, some green and under the seat jockey black. That’s why we highly recommend you cover saddles with a sheet or cloth that will allow it to breathe! The saddle went back to its owner, and her spouse out of the doghouse.... Here’s the before 5-step cleaning, the last pics are the after of the full treatment!
Something completely different than working on saddles. This is a custom purse with pockets and customer provided buckle. Already taking shape. I’ll post final product when I’m finished..., here you go~~~ It’s now finished, see the additional pictures added!
Another restoration is complete, just waiting for its owner Tammy Vrana, to pickup:l. This is a Scheirs saddle from Texas. It was really sad upon its arrival. After redoing the skirts, repairs, replacement, stitching and complete buck-stitching it’s finally back together and awaiting.
Well another happy and very surprised customer. Thank you Staci Capranica for your trust in me to rebuild your saddle! Included a new design in seat panel, quick change buckles, also a new tree, seat panel and restored leathers!
This is why you need to have your saddle checked annually!!!! Years of neglect, maintenance and care and not worrying from year to year. This customer now has to have a full rebuild with a new tree.
Holiday Special starts Nov 14/2019 - Jan 31/2020, make your reservation to get $30 off our 5-step cleaning process normally $120, ((Show /Parade Saddles slightly higher $150) Youth $60 13.5 or smaller)
Well the Tom Flynn 1865-1900’, saddle restoration is now complete. I must say it’s been a long journey for it to come full circle to now! It’s been quite humbling experience, and not without added help! Thank you Lonnie Height from Gomp-Hackbarth tools, Cowboy Museum in Oklahoma for illustrations of Saddlery from this period! My assistant Charles Painter for keeping the pieces tracked of.... LOL.... A huge thank you to Nancy Withers and family!
Well another reconditioned, repaired and upgraded saddle going home to its Owner Jim Person!
